Does anyone ever encountered an R4 SDHC Upgrade that does weird things to the SD? This is the one I have: It works fine it's not a fake but the problem is that whenever I use the R4, it puts weird files on to the sdcard. You know the one with gibberish filename with 0B in size? It puts a lot of those in the root of the sd and I always have to delete them on my android device. But recently that happened again and now it slowly corrupts the files on the SD and replaces them with e.g. the px68k folder became μx68k and it doesn't have any files. Fortunately, files on subfolders survived and I was able to recover them. Then I formatted the SD with my phone and it works fine now. BTW I'm using a Transcend 8GB class 4 sdcard.
How old is micro sd? If it is older than 4 years, with lots of use, discard it. Cheap microsd has short life. You can use format "sdformatter" to check it.
Bought it back in 2013, soo 2-3 years. Also the problem I mention which the r4 write weird giberrish files, doesn't happen when used on a phone which is odd
The sd is 2-3 years old. Bought it back in 2013. Strangely enough it works fine when being used on a phone.
I had similar happen to an R4 I had long before I upgraded to the newest version for my 3DS. The issue I had was using cheap no name brand SD cards, I would get the same gibberish nonsense and I too was frustrated in using it. Changing it to a 32gb Sandisk SD card seemed to do the trick. I agree with ASSEMbler, if it's old, toss it out and get an 8GB from ebay for a few bucks, they're dirt cheap now.
Your phone may use a different file system etc. which doesnt actually show the gibberish files I have had similar problems using cheaper SD cards so would suggest you upgrade it.
Did you get that SD card online for dirt cheap? If so that could be the cause. Ultra cheapo/counterfeit SD cards are a problem on eBay and elsewhere online... do NOT get them from there!! I learned that the hard way.
It looks like the filesystem got corrupted, not that it's deliberately writing such files. It could be due to a software or hardware problem. If it's due to the age of the flash chip, it's possible that some blocks have gone bad and your phone coincidentally isn't writing to those bad blocks. Just in case it was just a software glitch in the R4's firmware, did you try to format the card and to use it again with the R4? If you already tried that, you should try a different SD card like the others here have suggested.
Not yet. I'm curious about a listing I found online for a sandisk 32GB class 10 sdcard: http://www.lazada.com.ph/sandisk-sd...-ultra-micro-sdhc-card-greywhite-1405365.html Yes. I live in PH
When that happened, it was still being detected by my phone. Albeit the files in root got kaput in the process. Fortunately the subfolders were salvageable. So I formatted the card and restored the file. Works fine...for now. No. I didn't try reinstalling R4 firmware.
Even cheapo/counterfeit devices can ruin genuine SD cards. R4 isn't exactly well made to begin with, let alone the fuckton of clones out there of them too. Even Gateway causes issues to cards. I had a dashcam from China which was fine for a week before it started to eat SD cards. No idea what it honestly did them to them, they just wouldn't work since.
