So i bought a modchip from racketboy, and i cant seem to get it working on my 64 pin saturn... if you have a 64 pin saturn and racketboy modchip, please tell me how you got it working! i tried the A-B method, I used a solder sucker to disconnect the 0019 / 0014 points but to no avail. The only thing i didnt do was solder the signal wire to pin 8 on that chip next to the cd drive, because my soldering iron has a bigass point and i didnt feel like jury-rigging some kind of improvised tip for my soldering iron. any tips or ideas? Also, can somebody give me a technical reason why the 64 pin model has so much trouble with chips?
You have to mind the twist in the ribbon. If you don't have it twisted the right way when inserted in the correct orientation it won't work.
I tried that, but it would read all my discs as audio CDs, no matter if i put the disc in and then turned the power on, or put in the disc after powering on.
I tried installing a Racketboy chip once for a mod customer of mine and I could never get it working. Instead I replaced it with one of Rob Webb's chips and it worked great. I'm not sure if he still sells it as I know he took modchips off his site.
64 pins are just a pain for the most part , they have to be almost perfect for them to work correctly. I fought one for a couple days until it worked to a T , the ribbon needs to be perfect tbh.
What do you mean the ribbon needs to be perfect? are you saying that somehow the ribbon wasnt making contact all the way?
Never had a problem with any Saturn, regardless of pin amount or mod chip. The racketboy chips worked fine for me, but I did clean it up (where ever he gets them from, leave them in a fucking mess).
Anybody that has a 64 pin modchip with a racketboy chip installed, can you please tell me EXACTLY how you installed it? I want to know what worked for you!
Well robb webb chips works loveley and cheaper than racketboy chip but the racketboy chip is good for 20 pin saturn. robb webb chip works well on 21 pin saturn 64 pin and most other saturn i would not even buy or want a sanyo saturn due to lasers not even being made anymore i have modded one with robb webb chip worked well.
I think I'll just get a robb webb one then. I'll probably just sell the chip i have if i can. I did get it to work, i just had to put in an audio CD and swap it with the burned game. So i'm pretty sure the chip isnt broken.
Is this a Japanese model 2 64 pin saturn by chance? I had a problem modding mine because of the ribbon. The Japanese model 2 needs the mod chip plugged in backwards and you end up having to twist the ribbon cable into a crazy position.
