What do you think? Few things makes me happier. Last Monday, I saw a lower-class looking woman exit a subway with a plastic WalMart bag over her head to walk the 10 steps to her car in the parking lot in a very light calm rain. It made my day; she probably could hear me laughing even with my windows rolled-up. So, what's the climate where you live, and what do you think of it? What would be perfect for you?
The topic makes me think of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kzn3KaO2Vyk I have experienced many types of rain from cold scotch mist in Edinburgh, Scotland where you get wet even though it is not really raining to a Typhoon in Kaohsiung, Taiwan where it rained nearly 1m (yes a metre) of rain in nearly 2 days, so heavy was it that the flat roof of the apartment block i was staying could not draing the water fast enough so it came up to about a foot of water went over the step of the roof door and I got a waterfall coming down the stairs. Lots of shops closed but 7-11 stayed open, even if you had to step over several sandbags to get into the shop. Got a week off work too.
Until 3 months ago I lived in the state of Washington for 22 years. It doesn't rain a lot, like a Taiwan typhoon, but it's just always raining. Sprinkling, drizzling, raining. I made a drastic changed in climate and moved to souther California and I couldn't be happier. I've never experienced more than a couple weeks of warm, sunny weather until moving down here. I can now wear a t-shirt and shorts outside and I'm loving it.
Rain is my all time favorite kind of weather, idc about getting soaked either. I always heard rain was supposed to be the "Depressing Weather" but I think its the complete opposite for me. Plus I love all the sounds that come along with it, helps put me to sleep. And theres nothing like having some hot drink while playing video games late into the night listening to the rain pour down. There is only one thing I don't like about it, and that is the fact I am a motorcycle rider.
Mixed feelings about rain: Holland where I live: rain is cold and together with cold winds it's just terrible, allthough I love to sit at home with the heating on and the window open listening to the rain when I go to sleep (add thunder and I am even more happy) My favourite rain is tropical, it can rain like crazy but it cools down a bit from the tropical heat allthough still warm. I really don't mind warm rain, no matter how hard and long it rains, again add thunder and it's even better. But at the end of the day I still prefer a clear blue skies, sunny dry no wind climates that are not extremely warm (18-28 celcius) sadly in Holland this is probably reality max only a couple of weeks a year if at all.
I have a buddy that has lived in the high desert of California his entire life and he loves the rain, too. I figure if you're in one place for too long you're bound to get tired of the weather. After 22 years of rain, I was ready for a little warmth and sunshine in my life.
Well put! And the during-rain and subsequent after-rain smell? I wish I could buy it in a bottle to open in my room. In addition to the sound, all the birds and insects shut-the-hell-up when it's raining, so you get complete silence except for the pitter-patter on the roof, streets and trees. And when it rains nicely during the day, then clears up and the sun comes out again? Especially when it gets very very yellow... Maybe we only get that here in Kansas? It's some of the most incredible light. I like snow, too. Unfortunately here, when it snows there's a 80%+ chance that it will only be a few inches (when it does accumulate) and it just makes the streets disgusting by morning (or if it happens during the day, the wet slush freezes at night and then everyone wrecks their cars because they still don't know how to drive in it even though snows like that EVERY year multiple times). My dog used to LOVE the snow. Being a short-legged (Welsh Corgi), he basically hopped through it if it was more than 3-4 inches high, and it was always a joy to watch him amuse himself by literally running figure-eights in the backyard for 10 minutes straight. We had a freezing rain/ice storm about... 5-6 years ago. One of the smaller trees in our backyard literally split in half, one part taking out one of my mother's gardens and the other hanging on the electrical wires... Luckily the power also went out so me and my father had no trouble getting a rope on it and pulling it down across the yard.
My mother always thought there is something wrong with me because I liked to play in the rain. I was a healthy kid though, rarely caught a cold. I still like rain. There is no bad weather, only improper clothing.
I live in California which as most of you know gets some pretty damn good weather year round unless you live in Death Valley or up around Donner Pass (yes that Donner Pass). Being I live in Napa we have a microclimate comparable to Italy and most of the Mediterranean if not better in many ways. People get the warm sun about 90% of the year and as soon as it rains even the slightest amount people just open their mouths and start bitching like someone just stabbed their dog. I don't get it myself, I don't enjoy the heat above 72F as my body temp is already high to start out with. This makes it rather difficult for me to fall asleep in the summer without bags of ice around to cool me down. Unless it approaches 85F where everyone is beginning to complain I never go around complaining when it is sunny out but for some reason everyone feels they have the right to complain about the sole weather I truely enjoy. Thankfully ForecastFox says rain is coming Thursday. I shall have a happy.
I sort of like gray rainy days, particularly on a weekend during the fall or spring. Gives me an excuse to sort of chill out and take it easy for a change. Love warm weather, but every now and then it's nice to mix it up with some precipitation.
Same here! I love staying up late on the PC or playing video games while listening to the rain, specially when it's a heavy storm.
Rainy weather is great to stay in bed and watch TV or play a game. I really like it when it pours outside and I'm warm and cozy at home while everybody else is getting soaked. It's a bitch when you have to go to work and spend your whole day in wet clothes...
