So I was searching through a bag of retro stuff at Cash Converters looking at cartridges when I saw this. Thought it was a bit random, got it for 50p so can't really complain. It's an Electronics Boutique branded memory card and on the back it has it's own unique number, this card it #10 out of a run of however many, I'm not sure. It's probably nothing but I've never seen this type of card before and eBay doesn't bring up any auctions either, so thought I'd post here and see if anyone had any info on it.
I'm pretty sure I used to have one of those. Interesting but probably cheapo junk as so many PS1 memory cards are
Yeah cheapo junk it seems. I'm just curious to see how many of these cards there actually are, don't think I've ever seen a numbered memory card, to find a card <10 out of a run isn't bad, #1 would have been better lol.
Nah, Sony wouldn't allow EB Games to use a 3rd party memory card in a kiosk, especially since the console would have just been launched. By the way, did Electronics Boutique rename to EB Games?
I saw one of those memory cards at an EB Games years ago in Maryland, USA. It looked strange, so I asked the store clerk what it was. He said it a was Sony memory card and that the previous owner brought it back in because it didn't work on her PS2. That might be true because this auction states that it doesn't either. They also made them in other colors.
LOL of course they did, stores used to have Electronics Boutique with the EB symbol in the middle. They changed it because some staff couldn't spell it
That's kinda cool - a relic from the days when there was actually more than one game store. I have an official Sony PSX memory card that's translucent blue, kinda like this one. My dad got it at the same time he got a PS One + screen.
I can't believe they will hire morons who can't spell, and dont know what a NES is, yet alone not hire people like you and I.
Reason why I mentioned that is when my Uncle used to get gift vouchers for Christmas they'd always misspell the amount "Two Hangdrud Dollaers" etc, so wish I had a camera phone back then lol.
Because you're knowledgeable on games and will guide people away from shit. Somebody less knowledgeable just knows to encourage buying games and try to get them to get rewards cards and preorders.
I had a couple of these during the PSX era, only remarkable thing for me was that they were cheaper than the 1st party ones. Like yours both were screen printed with "electronics boutique" but mine were opaque grey (a shade lighter than the PSX) and transparent. I think the reason for all the extra plastic is that the same shell was used for the 2/4/8/16MB memory cards which needed the extra circuitry/button/LED display.
Yeah, I had one of these back when I was younger. It had extra 'pages' of storage which you had to navigate through by holding down a certain button combination as the machine booted. The 'page' you were on would display on a digital screen. This uses the exact same mold as those ones, but since it's only standard-size there is no screen or additional memory.
