Hi All, I am wondering if there are any rare collecting groups or posts where members show their collections like this one: https://www.facebook.com/groups/312338909193204/ Cheers David
Basically collections are shown on this facebook group but you can choose to remain anonymous so others can only comment Examples:
Only grade 10 SMB? Grading in general? Ill give the owner of the sealed Megaman Legends a point but most of this doesnt seem overly rare
Its a glimpse of what people collect from "Command & Conquer Uniforms" used in the cut-scenes to rare promo and press kits not 100% VGA stuff. Also you need x5 rare or expensive items as this group is setup like a museum so you can look though everyone's collection
Man, I was expecting prototypes or super rare one-of-a-kind things, not just stuff I can get from an eBay search. I guess they just like feeling important because they put an old box of cereal inside a plastic coffin.
The cereal box is not in someones collection on the group its a topic about the dumbest graded items lol
Boo, ya. I kinda feel bummed by the examples too. And it's only got 14 members, with that to show for? Then it's better to brag here imo. I'd whack that group over the head with my sealed Jak II Press Skateboard tho.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but some here already have 100x what your members seem to have. Also VGA grading is taken as an offence to the preservation community. You're not winning a single person over, and nothing is of museum quality. I know people here who have museum quality items, and I know things like my copy of Trail Blazers/Death Track for the GameBoy could easily go in one. Only copy known in existence, unreleased. Many others on here own items of the same magnitude and higher. You're posting kiddie items in with the heavy hitters of preservation and expect us all to be wowed over. (Not saying I'm one of them, I'm not) This is my take and how I think many of the users may feel.
Honestly, I think most people setting up things like this are more trying to see if they can get someone with uber rare things they're after to join so they can ask them "hey..you, uh, willing to part with that? I have zelda OOT sealed, VGA graded if you want to trade " Most big time collectors with one-of-a-kind items will absolutely not join things like this, so I guess I shouldn't expect any better.
Yeah, VGA is just taking an item that has value to you, sending it to some people that just scam you, coat it in plastic (even unprofessionally sometimes, damaging the product), send it back to you with something and how to value it. It's a huge scam, and usually, the people that buy this stuff are ripped off. Take this for example. http://www.ebay.com/itm/PS2-Linux-B...%3A1d3491af15e0a88ae20cc735fffdcd55%7Ciid%3A1 This is a scam. Before I go into a rant about how this listing is bad, take this as an example. You rip people off that don't deserve it. If you want to sell stuff, don't use VGA. Keep it on your shelf as is, and if the game is that important to you, put it in a glass case to mount it and look at it. VGA grading games is just a scam.
I'm just sayin. Grading to grade something in terms of quality is fine, until you make it higher priced.
If some of the members here have 100x what the group currently has why not share and let everyone enjoy seeing these gems and remain anonymous ? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As "Bramsworth" said: Honestly, I think most people setting up things like this are more trying to see if they can get someone with uber rare things they're after to join so they can ask them "hey..you, uh, willing to part with that? There is only 1 admin for the group and he collects only for nostalgia taking privacy very seriously. Also collectors with one off items hiding them in the basement like hoarders is kind of selfish but can understand some collectors are paranoid about getting robbed or hassled for them hence been able to stay anonymous. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As "PixelButts" said: I'm just sayin. As for VGA each to their own but yes it is only an opinion of someone else, yet when you have kids and don't want glass cabinets around they are a good idea so don't see how protecting something for these types of reasons is an offense to the community ? It is fucking annoying however some people asking for £1k+ a game but your always going to get them types of resellers/collectors so why not get involved and create something we can all admire ?
Facebook is a laughable platform for what you’re trying to accomplish. Plus ObscureGamers and ASSEMbler Games are sites dedicated to what’s rare and obscure, you can remain anonymous and share your collection. You’re basically advertising a worse version of what we have already. Why would anyone want to join that? I don’t know. The community here has already created something to admire, and you’ll always be outdone. Facebook is not the home of the obscure. There will always be dedicated sites that will make efforts like this obsolete. On the flip side it’s better for your members to contribute to a site like this that’s already established and gets foot traffic. Advertising on here won’t earn you brownie points.
