Just wondering if any knows how rare this PS1 Analog Controller is.

From What I remember this controller was only released to PAL market for a few months before Sony decided to release the Dual Shock with vibration to that region.

hmmm. I have two PSXs. One is NTSC and one is PAL. The NTSC came with the SCPH-1200 and the PAL came with the SCPH-1180e. My PAL PSX is one of the first editions.

Have a close look at the analog sticks, see they are not like a standard dual shock and these ones never come with vibration.

Indeed this is because the first analogue sticks were just analogue sticks, the first Japanese analogue sticks had very weedy vibration that could allegedly damage non Japanese machines (well according to Sony), so they removed the vibration and released those normal analogue sticks in the states and europaland.

They released some time after a more powerful vibrating pad and the rest is history. Note that it was a little while before they made pads that had Dual Shock written on them. I have some black Playstation pads which are dual shock but don't have Dual Shock written on them and have a different model number too.

I think someone should start a list of different model numbers of PS pads as there are quite a number of them. :s

I have at least 4 digital and 2 Dual Shocks at home (though one of them's no longer Dual Shock :-D*), and some of the digitals still have a rough texture! I'll post pic's when I get home, but I don't know how many different models I have.

*The plastic thing that held one of the vibraty things in place broke, so it was banging off the outer shell of the controller - so I kinda had to to take them both out so the controller wasn't some screwy uneven weight.

The one you show wasnt that rare i think. It used to be sold in all the major shops and for quiet a while. I remember picking one up for cheap.

I don't remember anyone buying them, though, and they seemed to disappear from most shops after the Dual Shock came out. They're definately rare compared to the digital and Dual Shock controllers, at least, but there's probably a lot rarer stuff around - anyone remember that one-handed ASCII pad? And don't forget Namco's screwy pieces of screwyness - the NeGcon and the JogCon (did that work with anything besides Ridge Racer Type 4?).

The one-handed ASCII pad for the SNES? I managed to pick one up at EB for pretty cheap, in Japanese box and all. Although this was a few years ago, I don't think it's rare.

Nah for the Ps1. I remember looking at that around the same time FF7 came out. Really wanted one back then.

Ah the ASCII pad, one-handed controller. The subject of so many "H" game jokes, lol.

I remember when the analog pad first got unveiled, it was a huge deal. Right around when FF7 launched.

The ad for the ASCII one-handed controller was really hilarious, if I remember correctly.
