RC Revenge PS1 beta

This is a beta from June 16th 2000. Again, I don't know this game in detail. The only difference I've spotted is that its name was Re-Volt 2 during its beta stage.

It's playable using epsxe, just unzip both the .img and .sub files as it has libcrypt protection.

Tried this on my PSone, doesn't like it. Just gets a disc error during loading the first race.

 

Does it do the same on epsxe? I could play it running the .img file.

 

Played just fine for me on epsxe 1.9.25.

 

Loaded onto my PS3. Works fantastically.

One word of mention however - if in the track creator, the audio at some point cuts out very often. It still tries to play the song but it gets maybe .5 of a second to 1 second of audio before it's blank audio again.
Also currently uploading a video (or 7 when I record it) of what is on the disc because 1) this game looks great, and 2) this game is actually fun and would totally spot something off in the beta compared to the final.. Now I just gotta play the final release.

I like how it's referring to "Re-Volt 2" when managing save data in game.

Really adds a bit of fun to this release

 

Fine on the emulator, just hates original hardware for some reason.

 

Are we talking NTSC-U/J or PAL PS1 hardware?

Strange as the disc is a PAL region disc. I can quickly try it on my J debugger if needed (region change tool once I mess with the image).

Edit - Doesn't get past the PS1 boot logo on the debugger Just hangs on it. Disappointing.

Have you tried loading it on a PS2/PS3? PS3 works but that's almost expected.

 

Can't with my PS2, I don't have a chip in it.

 

That's a shame. At least I KNOW it works on PS3 (hence where I got my screenshots).

Haven't found anything so far that's really cool but its certainly fun. Messed around with the track editor and I'm a tad disappointed there's a limit on pieces you can place. was having a good time making some really crazy map til it said I have to stop.

 

Not sure why the Re-Volt name was ditched either. It would've been a perfect way of making a sequel. Too bad it was limited by the 32-bit Playstation hardware. The levels are quite pretty, I reckon they'd look fantastic if it was ever planned for PC.

Well I guess RC Revenge PRO is as nice as the game will get.
