I'm not sure if this should be posted here, but the sticky says part of the reason for this section is "the preservation of electronics". If this is the wrong area I'd appreciate it if a mod would move it to off-topic or wherever they think it belongs.

I was recently given an RCA Truflat TV(believe it was a 27 inch, I do not have it here at the moment to check) and I was ecstatic when I saw how clear and bright the display was. Sadly my soul was crushed when the TV powered itself off after roughly 20 minutes of use. Seems to be that 20-30 minutes is the limit. Sometimes it turns itself back on after a minute but turns off after another minute, although on one occasion it turned off and on after 20min and stayed on for roughly another 20min. Once this happens all I can do is wait about half an hour and than I can get another 20min of use out of it.

I've read that some Truflats have the option to turn off the unit after a set period of time, but I can't find any timer options in the settings and I think that can be ruled out because the time it takes for the TV to power down varies. I've also read that these units are known for having inferior solder that breaks down and causes issues such as this, but I know very little about repairing electronics. So before I go off looking for possible solder gaps I thought I'd ask if anyone had any suggestions as to other possible reasons this TV is behaving in such a manner.

I haven't had a quality TV in over 12 years and until yesterday I had never seen Shenmue on such a crisp and bright display. I'm used to playing games on a TV that was so dark you had to turn any settings that affected the brightness to 100% and even than dark scenes or areas would be near pitch black.

If anyone can help me get this unit working properly I would be greatly appreciative. Hell, even getting it to stay on for an hour would be good enough. I'm guessing it's a heat issue and the only solution will be to find the one or multiple areas where the solder is failing, but I'm hoping one of you will have some suggestions as to other possibly simpler solutions.
