I'm sending a PPT to a company with an idea for a project.

Now I know they arent scammers ('been talking to some of their clients for a while) but you never know if some a-hole inside the company could get his mits on the PPT and show it as a creation of his own.

So what I need is a software that would let me know if they've received the PPT, so in the worst possible situation I have the proof that they did get the email with the PPT, they did open it and therefore it was my idea.

Does anyone knows if theres something that allows you to do that? or at least some sort of password protected, read-it-once-then-it-deletes-itself app?

Wouldn't it be easier to burn on CD / DVD and mail it express to the company so you'll have proof of delivery?

You could also password protect it differently for each file and asking the recipient to email you back asking for the password to open the file? That way you have proof that they have recieved it.

The only other way I am aware of finding out if an email has been opened and read is to embed a small picture file in it with a unique file, which if accessed the server will be able to give you the IP address of who ever accessed the file and proof that someone has opened the email, however if the software doesn't open embedded picture files then it doesn't work. :D

About mailing a CD, well it all depends on how much they want to wait for it:lol:

But seriously, this people (investors and such) are really impatient people, so one has to be careful around them, since a bad move may make them act irrationally.

I thought about the password part but then again they may just tell me to fuck-off for wasting their time.

The picture trick however may work, could you PM me the details?

Not sure how it works for PPT, but if you were the author / creator of a unique piece of material (music for example) then in order to ensure that you copyright it you initially send a copy of it on a CD to yourself in a registered envelope. You then don't open the package, but clearly mark the contents and then shelve it for however long it takes to get the project up and running. Keep proof of postage and dates. If you are lucky enough to have a vault, a lawyer or solicitor you can also ask them to hold it for you.

The PPT password is also very straight forward. If they want to view the material they can, but if they wish to 'borrow' anything they can't. It shouldn't piss anyone off.

I've done it on here a few times with various guides primarly to ensure that someone doesn't mistakenly reduce the voltage on some PSU board or claim it is safe to lick the components or something! :icon_bigg
