I read a few books recently that I think are worth mentioning. I suck at remembering names and authors are no exception... Especially without faces whose going to remember them?
    "Not Quite Adults"
It was about how 20 somethings are staying at home longer and how it's good. For the most part as long as you're saving money and doing what you need to become adults is fine, but I was actually in the minority of people staying at home to waste time and play video games.
The most important thing I gathered from this book is that, relying on your parents a little longer will help you in the long run, as well as delaying marriage and getting a solid education and career underway before raising a family.

    "Rich Dad's Prophecy"
The baby boomers are screwing America now that they're retiring, and have to start getting their retirement funds. Unless they were lucky enough to have the Defined Benefit (DB) retirement plan which means no matter how bad the company profits they would still get a check. Most of us will have Defined Contribution (DC) with maybe employer matching. This plan is dictated by how the stocks do and, well, at this point most of us will work till we die. The Prophecy was that this "economic crash" will take place in 2016 so the American economy will only get worse after that year. Imagine how many million baby boomers selling what I presume to be stocks and having no one to by them. The law of supply and demand says supply is up, demand is down and thus prices will go down.
    "An Anatomy of Addiction"
About Sigmund Freud and William Stewart Halsted's cocaine addictions and how they helped them and cursed them. Freud's "The Interpretation of Dreams" was written with the sped up thoughts of cocaine burning his nostrils.
Halsted one of the pioneers of sanitary surgery and many protocols still in use today fared much worse choosing injections as his vehicle and subsequent years of withdrawals while trying to get his career back.

Currently in the middle of "Blink" by Malcolm Gladwell. I like Blink because it illustrates how less information (thin-slicing) may help us make better decisions as opposed to years of research and discovery. Too much information may be too much for your mind to process.
and Rich Dad's advisors "The guide to Investing in Gold and Silver." By Mike Maloney

I've read the rich dad series, and they don't apply anymore, financial realities have changed.

This has always been true, unfortunately, my younger brother is 21 and doesn't have a job (can't find one where he lives as it's a dead town now that NASA has laid a bunch of people off - don't believe the papers, its a ghost town). His only option is to join the military if he wants to get financial help, but he lacks motivation.

Anyway... putting off marriage as long as possible is good, but sometimes marrying early works out, depending on who your partner is. Had a friend who married and was still in school. Managed to "milk the cow" as much as possible from the gubberment to help pay for his PHD and wife's law school, as well as pay off their cars. They paid off their 10k$ student loan in about two months as the wife managed to get a job after passing her BAR exam.

Life is all about learning how to exploit, and you need to have the smarts to do it. Relying on the government, such as the baby boomers relying on social security will screw them over, so the rest of us young people have to figure out ways so that burden doesn't affect us that much in whatever shape or form it might take.

That sucks because I was trying to find parallels to what he was writing about. Do you know of any examples or can you go into more detail on what you mean? Being financially literate overall should still be something to strive for no, doubt.
