I (purposely) got an n64 for Christmas, in my attempt to get all my old consoles back. I still have my old PD cartridge, and I'd like to backup those saves. I know it doesn't use a battery, like say a GBC cartridge. However, I'd still like to backup my saves. I got a GBC utility (can't remember the name) that I could connect to a parallel port on my PC, and read/write to the cartridge. Is there anything like that but for n64?
I think the neo myth can be what you looking for? https://www.neoflash.com/go/index.p...-neo-myth-sd-bundles-for-snesmdn64-flashcarts
Perfect Dark allows you to backup your saves to controller pak (or just save and load them from the controller pak and not the game cartridge, if you prefer). Hold down START when turning on the N64, to get to PD's cartridge menu, but if that doesn't have the options (I can't remember), then on the "Choose your agent" log-in screen, press left or right to get to the other cartridge menu. To save the saves from the controller pak to your PC, you can use a Dex Drive (http://micro-64.com/features/dexdrive.shtml) or an Everdrive 64 (http://micro-64.com/features/everdrive64.shtml). Note that (as in the article I linked to) the Dex Drive might be problematic on your PC. I'd definitely recommend the Everdrive 64, though, as it not only allows you to back up and restore controller pak game saves to your SD card, but it fools games that save to their own cartridge into instead saving to the SD card (so that, again, you can store the gamesaves on PC if you like). The ED64 also lets you play any game from the SD card (so you don't need to use your game cartridges any more), emulates the Gameshark, and allows you to play 64DD games too.
Any links to purchase the Everdrive? I'm finding it for close to $200? Are there any better places, or am I stuck with that?
Trust me, an Everdrive 64 is *well* worth the cost. Just having all of the games in one cartridge (i.e. on an SD card) is worth it, but when you factor in that you can play any region games on any N64 (provided your TV can show them), the Gameshark simulation, being able to run 64DD games (http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/64dd-cartridge-conversions-released.56654/) and Aleck64 arcade games (http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/aleck64-on-retail-consoles-poc.55041/) plus game mods, prototypes, homebrew, and previously unreleased games, plus being able to backup and restore your controller paks, and the fact that the cartridge based game saves are now stored on SD card (which makes it possible to backup/restore and change them), then you realise how much an N64 is transformed by the Everdrive. You can either buy a version 2.5, or a 3.0. The differences are listed on the above linked page (http://micro-64.com/features/everdrive64.shtml), but personally I'm more than happy with the v2.5
Just buy the Everdrive64. You can load as many ROMS as you like and it also has an NES emulator and a save game feature for games which didn't save back in the day.
