http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1czBcnX1Ww Its even supposedly being funded by DARPA. This thing is freaking amazing, I want one! Watch it when it gets kicked, it balances itself and keeps walking.h: And I thought Asimo was a breakthrough...
After watching this video I'd not be surprised anymore to see a Terminator on the streets that was sent back in time...
i feel that... this one of the creepiest videos i've ever seen. it's not alive, but it moves like it is... i don't know, i'm probably just weird or something but it's movement combined with that buzzing... *shudders*
I guess I'm the only one who wasn't freaked out by the video... But the idea of this thing being used as a replacement for real attack Dogs and the fact that it can be mass produced and possibly use a weapon or two kinda scares me.
I think gizmodo had an article on this some months ago... Anyway, it is kinda strange, like the metal gears from MGS4 that combine mechanical and organic parts (you could swear those are dog legs attached to a mechanical system). The buzzing sounds is familiar to me, like one of those small pneumatic compressors. I bet they are using one of those with a complex array of pumps to get the legs to move like that. In that case I doubt it can be mass produced, since such complex systems are both expensive and difficult to make.
That is very cool, robotics are coming along nicely these days. The bit when it was kicked was funny, but when it was stabalising itself on the ice it was just plain freaky, looks so much like a real animal (Though a drunk one). I think if I saw that climbing over a load of bricks in a dark alley with that buzzing I'd be shit scared.
I'm amazed with this thing. I saw a video a long time ago, but this is much improved. It moves like it has emotion, especially crawling over those cinder blocks, like it's nervous about it's next step. Very awesome stuff.
