I got my Atari 800XL yesterday. I just tested it out yesterday and played for about two hours this afternoon. Just now I was playing Ms Pac Man and heard a really loud pop noise. I couldn't figure out what it was because everything was normal. I turned the computer off and when I turned it back on, the image was warped and the wrong colors. I took the cart out and turned it back on and there were random letters and symbols all over the screen. I unplugged and replugged the surge protector and it displays no image when I turn it on, but the power LED is on.

Is it completely screwed? I got the damn thing yesterday.

A capacitor in your console certainly blown-out. If nothing died with it just changing the dead capactior (and all the others to avoid the same problem again) should make it work again.

What kind of power supply are you using? If it's the black "ingot", throw it away and get a different PSU; those particular PSUs are notorious for dying and often take the computer with it, usually by frying the RAM chips.
