Battery Pack for PSOne by Hip Gear. I thought it'd be NiCd like most other battery pack of the time but it's lead. And hopelessly dead, lead has a drawback about becoming dead if they were left completely discharged too long.

There's a big ass diode on the + in of the power jack, to prevent reverse polarity on the battery and circuit, and to prevent battery from draining through AC adapter when there's no AC power.

I exampled the circuits, it's a fairly simple one. From the power-in past the diode, the circuit comes in 3 branches. One goes to the front and is connected to dual op amp, transistors, variable resistors, and all to control low and full LED. I'm guessing when the battery is charging, it pulls the source voltage down due to load, causing low LED to light up. When the battery is full or flat dead, there's no load on the voltage source and full LED lights up.

Second branch goes through a power switch then to a resistor and LED for power on, and out the back to PSOne.

Third branch goes through LP60, 250 (resettable fuse, 60v 25A max) then to + terminal of the battery. The - terminal is connected to common ground.

Finding exact size replacement won't be easy, and lead battery is frickin' heavy so I'd like to replace it with something a little lighter. How easy would it be to integrate Li-ion rechargeable battery (9.6v laptop battery in that physical size range, often have over 10AH) or would I need to build a charging circuit?
