Interesting article from the LA Times. Not much meat to it, but it brings up a point that some parents might choose video games over other toys due to the scare about toys from China: http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-games29nov29,0,5485439.story?coll=la-home-center
Jesus, I'd be lucky if I usually got more than $200 worth of video game stuff for Christmas. From all of my combined family. For a few months, I'd spend about that much on games by themselves. Mainly September, October, and November.
yeah, same here. For Christmas we'd get about 100 pounds worth of stuff. Kids these days get way too much  Yakumo
Yeah, I think I'm getting Mass Effect for sexmas and thats about it. I'm not really a kid anymore though. When I was a kid though, it was always awesome as hell those years I did get a PlayStation or Genesis.
My main xmas gift I already have (it was my slim PSP & ff7cc). Hehe my other gifts will be from china.
I dont think so, console prices are still kinda high when compared to most toys. For example, the other day I saw this cool Nerf rifle which can transform into a gun and a SMG, all that for $29. You cant even buy a new game for that, so low income families (or ones into heavy debt) will surely go for toys rather than VGs.
That nerf gun thing doesnt work. =( It is cool though, I love Nerf. You know what I notice nowadays? When I was a kid, toy-wise, there was other stuff besides games. Now it seems like toys just plain sucks balls. If I had a kid I'd have a hard time finding something for them.
Honestly when looking at my old toys in my parent's house they also look lame, the difference is that I was a kid back then... Take for example R/C cars: only god knows how much money I spent in those TYCO cars. I had a Typhoon, a Scorcher, Fastrack, etc... and a lot of batteries and chargers. Looking back those toys were lame, basically becos the batt dies after like 10min, and it recharges at glacial rates. But yeah, theres a lot of focus into games rather than toys these days, in my opinion becos games have evolved a lot while toys only received a couple upgrades and nothing else...
They have some neat stuff these days...but nothing beats the ol' days of k-nex, lego and Ninja Turtles!
you're not alone Eric. Legos are still a subject that fascinates me just as much as when I was a little kid. My life-long dream is to someday build a house and have a room with a large table, with legos on it, from Airports and Space Stations to Submarines and Castles!
I still break mine out on occasion. I actually made a good looking Red Dragon (imo) out of some Red Lego pieces, with only using my imagination as a guide.
The Lego robot system looks pretty cool - even at £180.00 - I have a son whole will be used as my excuse for purchasing that kit one day lol
I used to love Space Lego as a kid. Had loads of that stuff and a few of the Technics Lego sets. THey were pretty expensive though Yakumo
K-Nex Coster FTW!!! God that was a monster to build (in 1 sitting) but it was just so bad ass once it was finished.
LOL that's what my room used to be like..... our school actually had lego robotics kits as an actual course, they're pretty neat and actually quite powerful (and if only actual programming could be as easy and fun as actual coding) as for k-nex....i never had the roller coaster...but i did manage to build plenty of famour airplanes from history LOL
