Hey ASSEMbler, I thought I'd write a response to the recently closed thread (I think you know the one). I'll try to do so in as respectful a manner as possible.

Pre-1: I wouldn't really characterize what was on that thread as "adult" content, and it certainly was not "nude."

    1. There are lots of things on this site that are not appropriate for children. If you're concerned about that, you should use an addon for the system that asks the user if they're over 18. They can lie, of course, but you're not legally responsible if they do. My point is, people on this site are going to post and say adult-oriented things no matter what. I don't think anyone wants a kiddiefied ASSEMblergames.

    2. Simply admiring the female form does not mean one views women as objects. It's just an expression of one's sexuality, which is perfectly natural and normal. It says nothing about one's view of women or their relationship to society.

    3. There's so little of this content that I don't really think that's an issue.

    4. The original post was a link. You can link to anything you want, as long as it's not shown directly on the page. And besides, copyrights? Are we really worried about that on a site that constantly shows pictures of commercial videogames?

Again, I mean no disrespect. I just felt the need to express my views on what seemed to me like poor excuses to close a thread. If you have another reason, I'd be glad to hear it.

Honestly, I don't really care about this particular instance all that much. That's not what I come to this site for. I just think it sets a bad precedent.

Sure he can, but that doesn't mean I can't comment on it. This is a community, after all.

    Discussion is always healthy.

I understand the threads about cute women. However
I prefer to have the site friendly to women. I would not
want the most popular thread in the Japan forum
to be about sexy women. I would prefer the site grow in
a more academic sense, using the college approach to
    things like this.

Sure, people have all kinds of fun in dorms and at fraternities,
but the fun does not become part of the campus.

The main forums are the campus. The sexy threads are off campus
    material.

I know sex impulse is a large part of male thinking. I will probably have
to address that with some sort of expanded off topic area.

My comment was based on your "poor excuses to close a thread".

He doesn't need any excuses or to give a reason really. Not that you couldn't comment/what ever.

I don't need a reason, but I prefer to not be so curt. I am willing to discuss
    anything about the site.

I like the idea of an expanded off-topic area. You could even make it limited to certain users.

Also, I can see what you mean about not wanting it to seem like that kind of thing is our focus.

I see his point, IMO "post ur fave hot chixx!" threads should be left for the GameFAQs forums of this world.

"Think of the children" rules just reek of "zero tolerance=zero thought". Though this particular point I'd have to write out far too much to explain myself properly than anyone would want to read.

I understand the rest of the points and have no real qualms with them. This isn't exactly a "fast cars and hot chicks" sort of venue. ASSEMBler wants to prevent this world we have from turning into a place where women are viewed akin to sexy live stock. Curious how the same people would respond to "hot boys in jock straps" threads.

With there being so many places go get this , I don't see the need here.

You'll get no argument from me, I simply don't like the thought as it can and does become a slippery slope as demonstrated by various world governments.

Then again I take you for being far more intelligent and reasonable than any politician. I also wouldn't expect it to snowball but I do thoroughly enjoy being free from a "curse" word filter so often invoked to protect minors. I do make sure to keep such word usage within reasonable limits.

Personally I was surprised that the thread stayed open for so long.

I'm kinda glad it was closed. There's plenty of other forums to browse for that kind of stuff.

You have a point. I guess I wasn't responding to the actual closing of the thread as much as to ASSEMbler's stated reasons for doing so. But you're right: this isn't the right place for it. Personally, I don't care what people post. I may and probably will voice my opinion of it, but I don't feel the need for any restriction on what they say. But that's ASSEMbler's decision; and since I generally enjoy the site, I can live with it.

I'd rather we just get rid of the "children" instead... :)

i dont want to get in all the argue of if its ok to post/talk about this things here, that women are toys, etc. But i want to point out the forum description that can lead to this kind of topics.

    Japan! Japan! (11 Viewing)
Living and collecting in Japan. Music, women and daily life in Nihon. Lifestyles, Living there, Anime and Manga.

The topic contens are another story...

I don't know how many of you are married but I can tell you now that women talk just as much about sex and men as we do about sex and women. I've had to be around on a few "Girls nights" (well, I mostly stay in my games room) when my wife's friends come over. All they bloody talk about is sex and stuff like that. It may not be as rude or crash as male talk but it's still the same topic.

Another interesting point is that all the women I know well couldn't care less about seeing sexy women images. They seem to have a different look on it as to guys looking at some muscle bound dude in a jockstrap.

I'd be interested in knowing what the women of this forum think about the subject. You don't have to post here but you could send a PM

I don't know guys, while I certainly don't have a problem with pornography I still don't see the point in actually "discussing" it (given that it's indifferent in terms of content and art style or particularly great actor performance).
Of course it's a matter of taste, but I am more aroused by a picture of a NOS Mark III than by those shallow, photoshopped Asian stereotypes who, on top of it all, aren't even naked.

The thread drifted away in a direction that can be found in the comments section of any adult video site. "Woo big boobs", "she's so beautiful", or in short, stupid male blahblahblah that seems to serve the posters' own arousal more than anything else. If I want to see porn, I watch porn, it's as easy as that. Why do I need a video game site for that? In conclusion, I agree with Assembler. Not for the reason of "woohoo women are discriminated" but because I think the nature of the "discussion" is immature and inappropriate for a video game forum.

i do agree with this however this is NOT a pure video game site, as if it was it wouldn't have Off-Topic sections, and the description for the Japan!Japan! section does state:

now from what it says their, if someone makes a post about women that is not pornographic (and the post that was made was definitely not) then i dont see what the problem is, if it had been pornographic then i totally agree it should be removed and the person who posted it is informed why what they posted is against the site rules, however the rules are not very well defined

and please this whole exploitation of women is absolutely outrageous, i mean maybe in the past but seriously these days its a very good way for girls to make money by becoming models and doing these photo shoots etc. and i know a couple of girls who do it and they have never had any bad experiences that they have told me about when i talk to them about it, my girlfriend also doesn't get upset if she see's a girl in a bikini or her underwear on a billboard etc.

some people just see a girl with a few less layers on and seem to panic

also as far as minors on this site go, personally i think if your too young that the sort of content that was posted is not suitable then quite frankly i dont think you should be on the internet without supervision because you must be really young and should not be viewing this site anyway as some of the game downloads etc. are for over 18's anyway and since they are posted freely on this site you are already giving minors access to material that they should NOT have access too, since the classification board say they are not suitable for minors who are we to say its ok for them to download, but we clearly do by having the links there

    some examples:

Duke Nukem Time to kill demo cd (18+)
Biohazard Special Edition - Gamecube (15+)
    Biohazard Samples (15+)
Sega CD Mortal Kombat beta (Mature/15+)
Resident Evil 4 Trial Edition : Debug Unlocked (15/18+)
    Unreal Beta [2-6-1998] (15+)

papers, magazines (not top shelf ones), tv, movies and billboards all have the same type of content and worse that minors can see easily so i dont see why the censorship on this site needs to be at this level

just pointing out a few things
