Can someone recommend me a glue gun available in the UK? There's loads on Amazon/Ebay and it's difficult to tell which are good and which might be duds. Or is it a case of they all do the same thing so it doesn't really matter? I've come across this one that seems to have mostly positive reviews - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stanley-STA0GR25-Heavy-Duty-Glue-Gun/dp/B000OOLOT8 If there's any others I should look at, please let me know.
I just have a small basic one. I decided on one that takes the small sticks. It works fine when I use. The only thing Id say mine does that I don't like is the dripping/leaking out of the nozzle without pulling the trigger. Not sure if "expensive" ones do that.
I have a small one from local Walmart, only $2 or $3 and a bag of 100 small sticks for a few dollars as well. They also leak a bit from the nozzle if it hasn't been used and still hot. There are 2 common sizes, one that takes small stick about 1cm in diameter and larger stick about 2 cm in diameter. They also come in 2 common fixed temp, medium which burns less if you get them on by accident (ideal for younger kids) but takes longer to melt and not good if you need a lot. Hot gun can squirt out more and faster but they really hurt if you have an accident. If you don't let kids use it and need to use it a lot, go with hot. Otherwise mild or medium is safer. As for size, check and see what is usually available locally such as craft store and general department store. It is much cheaper local if you can find one. The 100 stick bag I got was 3 or 4 years ago and nowhere near running out.
Glue guns are glue guns. Choose if you want a trigger or one you manually push the stick. That's it. Just go to B&Q or wherever and get a known brand - more likely to be able to get the sticks, then.
Try Steinel 3002: http://www.howardelectronics.com/steinel/glueguns.html it is very good glue gun in reasonable price.
So they do make "No Drip Nozzles" not sure if I could justify the 50 dollar price tag since I use mine like 4 times a year
I have an old Bostik 260. No unwanted dripping with it. Works well and reliable. Only issue with big glue gun like this is the bulk can prevent you from using it on hard to reach areas.
I got a glue gun from the 100 yen store and the damned thing would never get hot enough to actually melt the glue. I then picked up the cheapest one on amazon and it works fine. I used glue guns a lot in my previous job and generally the cheap ones are fine. But they do eventually break.
This link was only an example how it looks. In my country that glue gun costs ~20$, maybe in UK price will be similar.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. Have also come across this Bosch one when searching for non-drip - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bosch-PKP-240-Volt-Glue/dp/B0001D1Q72/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top Though some reviews say it still drips and a few have failed with pops. It also costs almost 3 times more than the Stanley in my original post, so I might just go for that one. It'll only be used on occasion anyway.
