So just bought the Fujitsu with the AMD Athlon

Not kitted it out yet....still in the box...........is it the end of the world as it doesn`t have XP on a disk.

It is just pre-installed and it has a recovery disk.

    Not life threatening is it?

If you find you need one you can normally contact manufacturer and get one for £10 or so. The recovery disk will contain all the data from the CD though, so will be able to restore your computer to its current out of the factory state

I was hoping to get a copy so I could install it on my old PC so that the kids could use it

Wonder if it`s worth contacting them anyway?

Well, most of the time the manufacturer's copy of the OS includes drivers and programs for the actual PC that it is recovering.

Still, the CD should be free from them, so why not.

Well the license actually restricts you from doing that, so if you give them a call then don't tell them that that is what you want it for. Just say something like "I like to keep the official Cd around for backup purposes" or something along those lines.

Give them A call, It can't hurt

If I say I have lost the recovery disk do you think they will send a proper copy or just another recovery disk?

They'll just send you a recovery disk again. I'd just call them and ask for a real XP cd, and if they ask any questions, say you just want to repartition the drive.

You don't need to repartition, just know that it involves splitting the hard disk into sections, and that you can only (easily) do it with a windows disk, not their recovery disk.
