What up folks. I finally got up off my butt and procured a PS4 for myself. So far though it's been used as a glorified Netflix machine, it's time to get me some games. What are your recommended must haves?
If you like games with a story and you didn't play the Last of Us on PS3, then I recommend the remastered version for the PS4. If you like open world games, I would recommend Infamous Second Son. That's all I can think of now. Of course, there are some great indie games for the PS4, so just check the PSN store and pick something you might like.
Wolfenstein: The New Order Sleeping Dogs if you haven't already played it Bloodborne if you're into that, for me it was a miss
People say Driveclub got a lot better since its launch so maybe you could check it out. Lego Marvel isn't a exclusive game for this new gen but it is really fun to play. Infamous Second Son is a very nice exclusive game that it is worth your money. Killzone: Shadow Fall is a nice game but it isn't that good. Knack was a really mediocre game, I wouldn't recommend that game. Also, it seems like The Witcher 3 is a very good game.
Last of us is fantastic. Bloodborne is actually really good, but absurdly hard. Infamous Second Son is also a fun game, but repetitive. Destiny is probably the best shooter in terms of controls, but the game is repetitive and the story is bland. I've heard the latest "expansion pack" does a lot to help in terms of stuff to do after finishing the main story. Baseball-wise, MLB The Show is wonderful. The PS4 is also the only console that can play FF14, and the controller scheme for the game is very competent. Let's see... what else... The rest aren't PS4 exclusive, but The Wither and Assassin's Creed Black Flag are both fantastic games. I also recommend snagging PS+. 2-3 free games a month from that. Mostly they are just indie games, but occasionally you might get a legit big game. I picked up the Gold edition of Injustice for free through that. Oh yea, my PSN handle on there is K7Sniper
With exclusives you're going to have a hard time. I'm just going to second what other users have already said: Bloodbourne is tight from what I hear. Driveclub has made definite strides. The Hot Shots Golf reboot will be out sometime this year, if that's your thing. The Order:1886 from what I hear was a glorified interactive movie. It was short and not very satisfying, but still worth a shot if you can knock it out on a rental. Omega Quintet is the next game I'm after. Got a weakness for JRPGs. Also the Ratchet & Clank reboot will be out this year.
I will say I have had quite a bit of fun with Dynasty Warriors and Warriors Orochi 3 as well. I don't think any are out on the XB1 yet. that's just your basic hackey slashy mook blender game. I also second picking up Mercenary Kings. That game gives me the happy feelings from the Metal Slug games. There is also Uncharted 4 coming out in the future, which has everyone going bonkers. Other upcoming PS4 games are the next Killzone, Disgaea 5, and Gran Turismo 7 Another thing I noticed, for the XB1, Indie games need to be fronted by a publisher, or so that was the case last I checked. Has that changed? I know PS4 has been a good spot for indie games.
I made this list based on the games that I have for the PS4. I own all of these games so I'm speaking from first hand experience. Platform exclusives in bold. Must Haves PS Plus Subscription (IMO the PS4 isnt complete without it and its honestly cheap for the value it provides) The Last of Us: Remastered MGSV: Ground Zeroes (free next month on PS Plus!) Bloodborne GTA V (if you don't own it already) Great Games Infamous: Second Son Shadow of Mordor Grim Fandango Remastered Hohokum Hotline Miami 2 Good Games Axiom Verge Shadow Warrior Destiny Far Cry 4 Limbo Fez Feel free to ask me any questions! -doulomb
I also recommend all of the HD remasters only if you haven't played the game last gen. The jump from the 7th to 8th gen of consoles wasn't very impressive, so the upgrade is nice, but definitely not worth buying the game again.
I'm going to reiterate the consensus on TLoU: Remastered. The jump to 60 FPS makes a world of difference. It makes the game look like a movie. It has a 30 FPS lock, but it doesn't utilize motion blur so it borders on being unplayable compared to the 60 FPS mode. While not very long, you get the multi-player and a nice DLC campaign. I found an online code and bought a digital download for $15. I prefer buying the physical game, but until it goes down in price it works out. Also if you liked Dead Island, Dying Light is pretty similar.
I would add Project Cars to the list. It's a no frill driving simulation that has lots of room for improvements.
I do not recommend Bloodborne. It is ridiculously hard and the control method is like old school Resident Evil. I don't get the hype for this game at all. Bunch of sadists, maybe. Games I recommend: The Last Of Us HD Destiny GTA V Far Cry 4 Resogun Flower The Witcher 3 Fez Shovel Knight Get a PS Plus subscription ASAP, also.
Bloodborne! Fuck... One hell of a game. Best game I've played in years, seriously. It is hard, but people are making too much of this. Its no more difficult or frustrating than games we all know and love like contra, resident evil etc. If you're a fan of dark fantasy horror this game creates a lovecraftian atmosphere like no other game ever. Also nobody has mentioned Diablo 3 yet. Great game you can't go wrong with, plays really well on consoles too.
Rocket League PSN Game The game isn't out yet, but I played the beta 2 and is my top favorite game. I think the official release is July 7th.
