I don't know if this has been posted before. But there's a new shooter game from the guy behind NGev (Gunlord ..) and it look amazing They reached their goal of 25k, so the game will be produced One thing that is nice is they have a steelcase for the 100$ pledge exclusive to kickstarter! The Dreamcast version of the game will be limited to 1000 copies If you're interested there's like 24 hour left, so hurry :05.18-flustered: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/redux/redux-dark-matters-a-shmup-for-sega-dreamcast
Isn't this just a fixed version of DUX which they said was in the making years ago? From the videos it still looks like the same game. I'm not really interested in this at all. Not when the likes of Stumwind blows it away. Yakumo
Yeah, compared to Sturmwind it's nothing. THe kickstarter include the fixed version of DUX (1.5). So Redux, is kind of a remake of that game including new things. The video is alpha footage, so I hope there will be ton of new stuff.
I have it on order i have Sturmwind and the newcomer bundle on order at Ngdevdirect as well ^^ its a good time to be a Dreamcast owner i just hope that supporting these releases brings even more games in the near future.
I'd pledge money to a Kickstarter project that'd somehow give an electric shock to anyone who plans on making a crappy new Dreamcast shooter.
Yeah I would consider supporting a Kickstarter project for just about any game that was any genre besides shooter.

Whoa, a shooter homebrew? I've been waiting for this forever! They NEVER make homebrew shooters for Dreamcast, it's always other damn genres. About time somebody finally acknowledged this fine genre that seems like it's been completely forgotten by the DC homebrew scene. Seriously, hats off!
@Bramsworth: I know eh? It's like we never get shooters so we totally need more of them. It's like way easier to reuse shooter code than to develop fresh code eh?
so thats why the 360 gets all the FPS :highly_amused: I admit I'd rather see another genre on the DC for a change, but hey, if the game is actually fun then who cares
there is other games that are not Shmup type games in development for Dreamcast such as Savior,Tahi and Scourge
All games that will never be released from the looks of it. Tahi was one of those classic examples of something announced too early with nothing to show but tons of planning and a website. No showing of any actual work done, at least by public knowledge anyway. Scourge is another example, announced when they don't even have a stable team or anything that looks like it will stay consistent until a finished product is made. Saviour, a simple Google search practically produces nothing, so I'll make the obvious assumption there. Not to outright bash those developers, we all have dreams. But I still remain pessimistic about the DC homebrew scene on the whole; nothing but shooters. I wonder why people that decide to make a new game seem to consistently choose that genre. They're the only ones that ever get completed, maybe because they're easier to code? I hope platform lovers like me see something to satisfy us someday, it's been a long time coming!
then I got a surprise for you Bramsworth, I've been keeping in contact with the chief of the Tahi clan & only 5 minutes ago I got news from him read it http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?43410-Tahi&p=636471#post636471
I wouldn't say *never be released* Scourge is backed by the Goatstore which is known to support alot of indie based games for various platforms and Savior can be found very easy if you know where to look >>> http://www.2d-retroperspectives.org/game_saviour.php
These idiots once tweeted me that making a Beat em up was too much work....when I wasn't even talking to them (I was talking to NGDev) SO I won't be supporting this
This game is a remake of Dux, which was at best a painfully generic shooter which was horribly broken. Now that they'll hopefully fix the broken parts, they'll just end up with a painfully generic shooter.
Well if you look at the commercial Dreamcast homebrew games that got released, you will find out that schmup is not the only genre being made: Last Hope [Schmup] Last Hope Pink Bullets [Schmup] Dux [Schmup] Fast Striker ver. 1.5 [Schmup] Gun Lord [Run 'n Gun] Irides Master of Blocks [Puzzle] Maqiupai [Puzzle] Inhabitants [Puzzle] Wind And Water: Puzzle Battles [Puzzle] Frog Feast [Puzzle] Feet of Fury [Music] Cool Herders [Action] Rush Rush Rally Racing [Race]
Just the only genre being made now. All the games you listed were made 3 or more years ago with Gun Lord being the only recent game.
Well even if you look at current developments, you will see there is more then just schmups; Redux [Schmup] NEO XYX [Schmup] Pier Solar 'HD' [RPG] TBA Shock Troopers-like game by NGEV Team [Run 'n Gun / Top down perspective] Tahi - The Arocean War [RPG] SCOURGE [FPS]
