I have a number of 100m reels of equipment wire that has been in storage for a considerable time, and it is just getting in the way now.

It is quite an unusual gauge - 14/0.12 (i.e. 14 strands of wire each being 0.12mm thick). It is similar in overall diameter to the common light gauge 7/0.2 (24 SWG to Americans), but with the benefit of more flexibility. I took a pic (below) of the wire on the reel (blue) next to a length of 7/0.2 (red) to compare. It has, therefore, a comparable maximum current rating of 1 amp.

The cable is made to BBC standards, and was used by them for a number of applications, primarily video connections.

Stranded wire is much better in many situations than solid core wire, particularly in an application where the wire might be subject to being flexed a lot - if one strand breaks, the whole connection doesn't go!

This is good for modding consoles, particularly region and 50/60hz switches. It would be good for modchips too. You could use it in JAMMA situations such as making harnesses or possibly even for a loom. However, I would remind you of the currents involved in these applications and suggest using a thicker cable (e.g. 24/0.2) for AT LEAST the +5V and +12V lines (and possibly -5V if you use it). It would be fine for data cables though, e.g. video etc.

As you can see, there are various colours including striped (usually more expensive!). I think I have a couple more colours, too. If you have a colour preference, let me know.

This cable is not easy to get now! The closest I have found is around £20-30 a reel... and that is excluding VAT and shipping! My price is...

£5 a reel INCLUDING shipping within the UK!

If you want more than 1 reel, I will offer bulk prices as follows:

    2 reels £8 shipped
    3 reels £12 shipped
    4 reels £15 shipped
    5 reels £18 shipped
    6 reels £20 shipped
    7 reels £22 shipped
    8 reels £24 shipped
    9 reels £26 shipped
    10 reels £28 shipped

I will ship outside the UK, but shipping will make the prices a bit higher. If you're interested, feel free to ask for a price.

I would prefer payment by cheque or bank transfer, but will accept PayPal.

I good sir shall take some off your hands. Would you accept PayPal (as grudgingly suggested lol) for 2 reels? I have an arcade to rewire so red white stripped and a standard blue would do me fine thanks.

PM with PP details and it shall be done!

I'd take a couple if I weren't skint atm - have you got lots of reels? Will pick some up if you have any left in a week or so.

I have a number of reels (about 60) but I have had a few orders on an arcade forum, too.

All above requests noted. I'm going to go and have a look through the pile and see exactly what I have left now.

Pitsunami: I'm going up the Post Office tomorrow and I'll find out the cost to Greece. I think that it would be too expensive to ship 2 reels by carrier, so standard post is best. I'll let you know tomorrow.

You do seem to have a lot of wire, did you raid the BBC's skip? Did they change the minimum wire gauge from 14/0.12 to 16/0.12? Good price for it, pity I am so far away otherwise I would have bought some. :(

Pity the shipping would be so much.

This reminds me of old fashioned speaker wire from the 70's

I would say this is BETTER quality than the new stuff so
if I was in uk I would have bought almost all of it...

Yeah, shipping via carrier to NYC/North NJ would be around £34 for 10 I think, and about £40 for 20. The rest of the US is a little more. One reel would be around £5 air mail or £2.50 surface (although I could swallow some of that by taking off the UK postage price), so you're looking at doubling the price either way I guess. If anyone wants a quote to the US, I'm happy to look into it, even if it'll prove too expensive to go ahead with.

Incidentally, I forgot to mention - 7 or more reels will probably go by DHL in the UK, that keeps the price down.

It is ex-BBC surplus wire, but not from a skip lol. I believe they used it to make up multi-core cables. The insulation has a nice 'soft' feel to it - modern PVC is quite harsh and doesn't flex so well. I think the modern stuff will get brittle a lot quicker. I'm not sure which grade they use now - 0.12mm strands seem fairly uncommon - I've seen 7/0.12. Other than that, it goes up to thicker strands, particularly 0.2mm. They might well have switched to that at the BBC.

    Hi mate,

Sorry for the delay. I had run out of suitable boxes, so I went up the Post Office with the packages I had to send (same amount so I'd get a quote for Greece) and the Postmaster was doing his usual thing... doing some light paperwork and ignoring a queue a mile long, leaving it down to the two elderly ladies who work there to cope! The one I got was so slow sorting my parcel, I didn't want to ask her how much it'd cost to send somewhere else and confuse her, holding the queue up even more! Aww bless! I'm going up there today so will let you know - you're already on my list ;-)

    Hi guys,

I'll reply confirming this tomorrow when I'm more awake, but it looks like the price to Europe would be £5 on top of the above for up to 4 reels, anyway.
