Hi, I'm trying to make a small mod that will allow me to use a tact switch (or something similar) to operate the X button on a PS2 controller. I tried simply soldering wires to the Common and X Button contacts on the PS2 controller and touching them together in-game to see if it worked - and it doesn't. Here's what I did: What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
I've never popped open a controller, but I wonder if the pressure sensitivity has anything to do with it. I'd use a multimeter on x button and see how it responds when pressed.
As far as i know, the flat cable needs to be in contact with its pins for any of the buttons to work, so, the 2 wires you have there will basically be ignored and if you try to put the flat panel back, the wires will be in the way... First, desolder those wires and make sure that theres no solder left to interfere with the connection between flat panel and the row of pins. Then maybe try soldering wires to somewhere further down the line, like, maybe to the chip in the middle directly? just make sure the panel is back on the pins and being held down firmly when you test it. Here's 2 points you could try soldering to. Edited your picture for convenience. Watch you don't short circuit the pins on the chip.. don't want to blow up your ps2
