Was watching some youtube vids when i stumbled upon this. It seems as if some fans are doing a RE2 remake, using the UDK (Unreal Development Kit ) and assets from darkside chronicles. This looks extremely promising!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but here's a statement from the creator.

Thank goodness for that. We don't need any anymore bullshit remakes. There is nothing wrong with original Resident Evil 2. I can't stand when games are getting remakes.

I agree... except for the fact that this didnt look like just "another bullshit remake". This actually looked really good, quite promising imo. I just watched the vid of the other remake that was linked above, and that looks like it has potential. Remakes can be amazing when they are done right, just look at the RE1 REmake and Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes. Both were amazing reimaginings of the original

The link that Johnny posted is by the same person unfortunately.

There are two videos in the link Johnny posted. The first one is by the same person, and made with the UDK. The second video in that link is from a completely different project, using the Unity engine.

"The above video takes environments and models from Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles and re-purposes them for a remake of Resident Evil 2. Which raises an interesting question: Why didn't Capcom just do this? This project was done by a presumed fan solely as programming practice.
The below video, Resident Evil 2 Reborn HD, is a fan-made project by some Italian developers currently working on putting out an alpha."

So, while the first project wont be completed, the second one (dubbed Resident Evil 2: REborn) is still being worked on and should be completed (hopefully)

EDIT : heres a link for the second one, they say they are releasing an open alpha build this month. http://www.invadergames.eu/site/en/

Wow they completely took the best thing about the early RE games and threw it out the window...the atmosphere! Its far too light and the horror is lost within it. I know it was only an early demo but still would have thought they'd have nailed that before releasing videos.

I agree 100%. My comment on the one video was that i loved it, but they needed to rework the lighting to make it feel darker and moodier.

I completely overlooked the other video, you're right.

Does it have to be over-the-shoulder? At least the RE1 remake still played like the original.

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought. It looks okay, but again, it would be better if it were more like the original. The thing I liked about the fixed camera angles is that it gave the games a very cinematic feel. A remake of 2 in the same vein as the Gamecube remake would be awesome, but that doesn't seem to be what this project is aiming for.

If you have a decent pc just toss the disc for the wii port of the RE:make in your pc. Dolphin runs that game flawlessly and at full speed, even on some subpar computers. (This only applies if you have the actual game disc, im not sure how iso performance on dolphin is, i use it only for my legitimate GC and Wii Discs.)

Why not just play it on a Gamecube or Wii?

Native 1080p graphics with 16xAA running in stereoscopic 3d, thats why ;) Gamecube and Wii cant do that, but dolphin can. Call me a graphics whore if you will, lol. Connect some wii peripherals thru bluetooth, if your pc supports it, and your good to go.

For the record, i own both a gamecube and a wii. I only use them when im trying to play a game that has issues on dolphin.

EDIT: Running at 1080p in 3d with all the nice effects enabled does require a rather beastly pc. Lesser builds can probably do non-3d 720p with no AA just fine.

I'm sure my PC could handle it, but I'd rather play it on the original hardware. Emulation of machines like the Gamecube is never perfect. Also, playing on my Wii on a CRT in 480p is pretty nice.

Like i said, any games with emulation issues i play on the real hardware. Games that are emulated perfectly ( or near-perfectly), i much prefer to emulate. Wii running in 480p on a crt DOES look nice, but it is nowhere near close to how pretty it looks in 1080p 3d.
