I couldn't find the other threads, but I know that there was some talk about it before. Well, they are finally taking preorders on it: http://store.artlebedev.com/catalog/computer_add-ons/optimus/ It is set to ship in December-January and no, that price isn't a typo... :icon_bigg
For over $1500 it had better be the quietest damn keyboard around :lol: Seriously though, it seems like a pretty neat idea, however, I'm going to stick with my $50 Saitek ;-)
For $1500, typing on that thing better feel like a thousand tiny ferries dancing around spreading pixie dust upon the tips of your fingers. I'm serious.
Well looking like the kind of keyboard that you get on a till POS system, I kind of doubt the typing experience is going to be great... most keyboards have rounded concave surfaces for a good reason, flat plastic is not for touch typing...
So, how long until someone buys one of these and installs an "interactive" nude woman keyboard layout?
That's bollocks. This thing has been in production for years, and they kept promising us it. They already released the 3 key version (at a huge price, something like $120). They promised back in 2005 that it'd be out in 2006, and retail at around $300, at which point we all said ouch. This is absolutely ludicrous.
At the time i was really interested in this but after delay after delay, I really got fed up of waiting and then to here about the 1500 price tag its really stupid i was expecting 250-300 which is still expensive for a keyboard but 1500 is really disappointing
But they charge $160 for the three-key one, $53 per key. For 114 keys ($6,080) the $1,500 pricetag is a steal... :katamari:
Haha, they sold out of 200. If they had any business sense, they would've had a process set up to make 200,000 at a WAY lower cost per unit.
No matter how awesome this may be, I couldnt ever see myself spending $1,500 Dollars on such an item.... Unless I was super rich.... But still even then I dont think I would. :thumbsup: Plus, I am never really looking at my keyboard as I type. ;-)
It's like having a piano keyboard with the notes on each of the keys. When you first start you look at the keys but after a while, you just memorize where each key is and you don't have to look anymore.
The hi-end computer I'm building costs less than that keyboard. No matter the fantastic idea and technology used, I find the price ridiculous. Edit: after thinking about it again, I don't even like the idea. It reminds me of those expensive cheapass quality strat-clone guitars with LED lights on the fretboard... I find the idea totally retarded since after a short time they tend to confuse and delay the player, forcing him to totally ignore the lights and sell it on ebay to buy a proper guitar. I prefer this keyboard instead (or make one yourselfs, PM me for a guide lol).
if the thing could transformed into Optimus Prime then I'd buy it next no time... Huh?! No? Well then I will stick with my old trusty Apple Keyboard II... ^ ^;
