    Heyhey.

I'm after a USB remote control for my laptop. ALL I want to do is to be able to play/pause, skip/previous track. Volume would be a bonus, as would anything else. Everything I find is like an extensive solution.. ideally I'd like it to need need a background application running from startup, but I could deal with a lightweight one. I just need it for Media Player (10) but Intervideo WinDVD compatbility would also not be sniffed at.

My Dad has on of these but no longer uses it: medion_remote.pdf
I can't ghet the damn thing to work on my laptop- Medion Driver download does nothing. Tfried the driver for the ATI REmote Wonder; nothing. I seem to remember it only worked with a shite Medion spftware package on my Dad's PC.

Any wisdom, advice, or recommendations to heed?

When you say USB remote, I take it you mean something wireless that works via Bluetooth or IR with a receiver to stick into the USB port?

Most of the remote control software out there requires a Infrared port that runs off a serial port (or at least a serial port emulation) a lot of new laptops and most USB IrDA dongles don't use this (as they are IrDA ports)and therefore remotes won't work on them.

You will need to find a PC remote that is Windows Media Centre compatable and has a USB dongle, you should be able to find something for around $30. These do work with Windows Media Player, WMC but more importantly they work with Media Player Classic and the like. :)

The remote in question has an accompanying USB dongle, and by the looks of it is operates on RF frequency rather than infrared.
    Cheers for the advice
