Since my HDD was giving me problems I decided to put in a new one, I know to format it with the recovery since last time I didn't it was nothing but trouble but I am getting a S8005 error. I get this error at the exact same file every time. Maybe a recovery disk could fix it? If it can then someone is going to need to point me towerds where to get it cause IDK. I am using "XDKRecoveryXenon21256.3.exe" BTW.
If you have run anything on the kit that alters the mobileJ settings like xbdmrecovery.xex an error like this will occur during a remote recovery and will continue until an ISO based recovery is performed. When I get home I will pm you with a ISO based recovery link.
So this might have been caused by the Test to Dev wizardry? Honestly I can't think of what I could have done to cause this. I should note that the other HDD I had which was giving me I/O errors did format just fine with the remote recovery, Other then giving said I/O errors but just clicking on try again lets it continue. Reason I don't want to use it is that while I can transfer things to it I can't run anything from it. EDIT: Oh! And I tried formatting the HDD from the retail dash but while it does not give any errors, It seems to not format it.
Yes the test to dev can change the xbdm.ini and/or the mobileJ settings and cause an error with remote recoveries. I haven't the foggiest idea without looking more into it but this had always happened to me until I just stopped using xexs like that for full devkit converts. I will be home in the evening to get you the link. It should do the trick.
So I finally got me some DVD +R (cheap memorex ones but meh) And have burned the recovery ISO to it, The Xbox reads it fine and I can start the default.xex. After starting the recovery It asks to press any button to begin followed by asking to press "Y" to recover as retail or any other button for dev kit, I press "A". But after pressing "A" it ejected the disk and is just sitting on this screen, I closed the tray with the disk still in it but I am afraid to power it off, Yalp! EDIT: I restarted the system and tried again but got this, I am going to assume the problem here is not the Xbox but the HDD.
Only thing I can assume mate is because you are using cheap media to burn on mate, try verbatim, it's still really cheap for a few discs. Also curious, could anyone explain why it says "Y" to recover to retail? What does that even do? Always wondered but thought it wasn't thread worthy
I did actually look for Verbatim disks but my local shop only had CD -R's, Only other DVD +R they had was a spindle of 50 of SONY brand. And yes WTF is up with the recover as retail thing?
Maybe because you're using CD+R, I had a problem because I used dual layer, CD-R works fine though and has suffiecent space for a recovery ISO, most anyway.
odd thing is that I did try a CD-R but the Xbox didn't want to read it, Said unsupported disk. Anywhoo I put the old HDD back and the recovery worked fine plus the remote recovery worked sept for the same issue I had with it. If a wait a sec then click try again it does continue.
Well now that the console is rid of the xbdm.ini settings the "wizardry" set, and the kit is back on 21256.3 as a "test kit", can you rerun the remote 21256.3 with the new HDD inside to format the new HDD correctly for XDK use?
Same error, Yep I am more sure then ever that the HDD is the problem. In other news the Xbox gave me a E79, One power cycle later and it's fine but still scared me ;_;
Well the good news is E79 is an xam.xex error which is related to the HDD. So that just further confirms the HDD issues. My Halo 3 Kit recently did that. I am pretty sure it took 5 years off my life when I went into convulsions when it happened.
