I know this place is generally for preserving older consoles, but I wondered if someone could give some quick advice, as other places I've asked have generally said things like 'have you tried turning it off and back on?'. If it's inapropriate to ask here, and suggestions on where best to ask?

So I picked up a cheap, faulty xbox 360 (Slim, Halo 4 model). It works fine but has issues connecting a wireless controller (I've been told a wired one will work, but I'm yet to try it as I haven't got one!).

If I press the sync button on the 360 it starts to search, if I then press the sync button on a controller they react as if they've found each other.

The lights on the console stop going around and same on the controller. Except on the controller the lights start to flash a pattern, similar to as-if the battery was low. There is no response on the console to button presses, and it just seems as if the handshake is not completing. Tried multiple controllers which work fine with my other console so I know the issue is console based.

Any advice on what could be causing this? We've been using the 360 as a media hub for now (as you can still use the media remote with it) but would like to get it a bit more alive.

Looking at what that does makes me feel like that's exactly the component I need. I completely forgot that the console doesn't eject the disk tray if you just press the button - which according to a few of the ebay posts is common with this part failing. Will take the console apart at the weekend and get the right part number. Bit concerned I'll loose the bluelights of the halo model, hopefully there will be one on there.

    Thanks :)

try a wireless controller with the play n charge kit
then check rol pcb and maybe take a look at the wifi module

Tried with a play and charge kit and it seems to completely shut the controller down. No lights on the controller at all.

If by wifi this would affect standard networking features then it's unlikely to be this part as we've used it for netflix etc with no issues. Obviously this doesn't mean the module is not damaged, but the ROL pcb is looking the likely issue.
