I came across 4 original Gameboy in various condition, with a black, green, and clear among them. I decided to make the white one a sacrificial donor if needed since they are fairly common. The white one had power light but no display at all and the ribbon cable was completely detatched from the side of the LCD, I doubt it'd be easy fix as I'd have to line it perfectly and re-glue it somehow. Not much room to work on the back of the LCD without ruining the plastic frame or tearing the cable any worse. Black one had minor problem with LCD and sound, easily fixed (speaker was bad, took one from sacrifice boy, solder trick on LCD). It also has the battery cover and EXT port cover, NICE!!! Clear one wouldn't power on but when I took it apart to start checking, it worked. I think the ribbon cable between the back and front board got loose or something. LCD was pristine. Has the clear EXT port cover but no battery cover The LCD cover also needed to be replaced, it was scuffed so badly it had permanent white clouds. Green one also had LCD issue and when I took it apart, I saw another problem EW EW EW. Stole the sound out board from the sacrificial and soldered it in. The green one has the battery cover but no EXT port cover. Where can I find clear battery cover and green EXT port cover for complete sake? Those 3 would go nice with my complete red one and the original 1989 white one I got as a gift. All I need is the very rare yellow one and a fucking rare blue one to get a complete first gen Play It Loud set. (blue was rare because it was never advertised with the other color so very few kids asked for blue model, so it sold poorly) PS why do Gameboy of different era look different when you turn the power off? Some earlier model shows multiple dark horizontal lines and some later model shows only 1 or 2 lines at power off?
Wow, actually I didn't realise that, could Nintendo swap for a better/ worst batch of screens in the late stage of Gameboy era? Check on the Gameboy board if it have any revision. Picture below shows mine 3 Gameboy color with marking showing CPU/03, CPU/04, CPU/05 on the main board.
