There was nothing wrong with a lot of IBM drives, plus Hitachi made some good drives with the name, true. The trouble with hard drives nowadays is they have to make them cheaply and nobody seems to care about customer service as a result. Making OEM drives for big name manufacturers was a pain in the arse - especially when some of those names disappeared. Most manufacturers won't accept returns on a lot of drives nowadays unless it's from the OEM.

As for firmware, Netgear was a prime example of a company that had dodgy firmware. Around 2005, just about all of their routers had firmware issues and would keep dropping wi-fi. A firmware update sorted it, and people didn't complain and kept using their routers.

    Hi, My first post here.

I have Samsung S24A350H 24inch LED monitor and have similar problem. Blank screen on HDMI port while it works fine on VGA. I confirmed all other things, my video card, cables etc all fine. problem in monitor.

I am currently using it via VGA port only. So I tried to update firmware on VGA connection through my desktop but when I execute firmware file 'SamsungFirmwareUpdater_1.1.07_120227.exe' it says all monitors are up to date. That's because a year ago I already upgraded firmware.

Does it make a difference when you upgrade firmware while monitor is hooked from VGA cable or from other cable ?

How did you managed to upgrade firmware while all you get is blank screen on monitor?

How can I try to upgrade on HDMI cable while all what I get is blank screen with steady status light on HDMI?

I also tried to do a trick but it did not worked. I first hooked monitor via VGA cable. booted windows, make the firmware file ready to execute so one click of my mouse will execute the firmware. I hold on there, changed monitor to HDMI ( blank screen) then clicked mouse assuming it will run firmware but I was not successful. it did not showed message that monitor has been upgraded

    please suggest

    Hello!
Your problem is slightly different in that I had no image on VGA either, only when no cable at all was connected. But trying to upgrade the firmware is probably a good place to start anyway!

"Does it make a difference when you upgrade firmware while monitor is hooked from VGA cable or from other cable ?"

It did for me. If I remember correctly, the upgrade software lied and said I was running the latest firmware when hooked up with VGA, but when hooked up with DVI it upgraded successfully.

"How did you managed to upgrade firmware while all you get is blank screen on monitor?"

I used a desktop with a graphics card with support for multiple monitors and a free DVI outuput

"How can I try to upgrade on HDMI cable while all what I get is blank screen with steady status light on HDMI?"

Find a working computer with a working monitor (or a laptop) with a free HDMI output. For example if you could find another monitor, hook it up to the VGA port, and your bad monitor to the HDMI port.

    Good luck!
