Does anyone know any good methods or compounds to fill in broken plastic? See, I got a PS1-SCPH5903 and upon opening it there is a bit of damage inside. Now as you know, 5903's don't exactly float around at cheap-as prices so I'm not looking to just buy a new case... Below you'll see that the plastic where screws go in have been broken. Unfortunately, the remains of these pieces are not in the case.
You could use an epoxy resin to rebuild the broken posts, then screw the self tapping screws back in while it cures, make sure to put some light oil on the screws so the epoxy doesn't stick to them though. Also do you still have the broken pieces? if you do hold them in place with small cable ties, then put the epoxy resin in the reformed post and insert your oiled screws.. I used to use ZAP products when i flew RC helicopters, this is pretty good stuff. You could use harder setting resins but this will give a little more flex, so you can tighten the screws without stripping the thread. Not as good as new, but close enough. edit: just re read, you don't have the pieces.. http://www.zapglue.com/5%20Min%20Epoxy.html
Thanks. I actually found this tutorial on re-threading plastic screw holes using epoxy: http://www.ultimateamiga.co.uk/index.php?topic=4351.0 Although I wasn't sure if I should/could use it for rebuilding the posts.
What you do is cut a tube that fits around the broken bit. Make sure it won't conflict with pcb. Fill it with epoxy (we use something called jb weld). Once dry, slowly tap with a drill.
