I've been toying around with a few things, mainly a few PSX and PSOne and original Gameboy. Anyway one PSX, a 5500 with Old Crow that I found at Goodwill, it plays but the FMV and audio s-s-s-tutters noticeably even with real PSX disc so I took apart the laser assembly and found dust bunny under the black plate the size of a rat, a gear next to the worm gear has a chipped tooth, and one screw missing that holds down the black plastic plate.

A PSOne I also found cheap that I just got around to checking, it won't play anything and when I checked, the black plate that goes around the laser covering the magnetic coil somehow got broke in half and the laser would not move up or down so it couldn't focus at all.

Anyway I'm out $25 as I ordered a replacement 440ADM and 440BAM to get these 2 fully working.

Yet for some reason I still feel the need to take apart something to tweak it or fix it. And that one XBox is waving a white flag... :cocksure: (drive tray tends to stick and not open or close unless I push/pull it)

PS how can a rat sized dust bunny get under that plate? There's barely room for anything and there's no forced air circulation in PSOne unless the lid down switch was stuck down or bypassed and someone left the lid up all the time while playing game.

I've learned that dust just gets in systems no matter what you do, maybe dust particles are smaller than air.

Yeah, I've taken to getting broken systems off ebay just to fix them and maybe sell them, just because I want to tinker.

It highly depends on the number of consoles you do.

Doing a repair here and there can be exhilarating, as a hobby nothing beats that feeling of I just brought this console back from the grave, its working again.

But when repairing starts becoming your job and you start doing 50x laser repairs for ps2/3 xbox1/360 a week things get monotonous fast, same with modding and just about anything els console related.

    +1

I recently stopped working for the local Game Traders. Quite a few reasons (few reasons that I won't go into here), one of them was it was repetitive and time consuming. Since I have stopped, I have gotten some of my own stuff done.

It's fun if you make it your hobby, but not your job. It gets repetitive...

I do enjoy repairing my own systems or some junk systems I got for $10 :)

The other day I had this guy ship me these items since I had credit with him for a transaction I could not finish payment (I asked him to offer the item to other buyer since I could not rise the necessary money)... Amongst them:

    http://produto.mercadolivre.com.br/...olo-completo-travado-scph-15000-c-defeito-_JM

"'Phat' Playstation 2 not modded CIB SCPH-15000 *FAULTY*"

I got the console here, unpacked it and for my surprise it worked at first. I spent a while playing it and it started to crash.

Traced the fault to be the clock generator circuit which was factory-faulty. This stuff is addictive indeed.

Now I have a CIB SCPH-15000 which two people tried to fix and failed. ;)

Repairing consoles is like anything else, if you don't have another hobby it can be boring very Quickly- I'm on the other hand not normal and love fixing them besides my many cars LOL- Perseverance is Key :)
