    Hi Guys,
I managed to grab myself a GameGear last weekend, unfortunately not in a working state. When powered on (with or without game inserted) I get white horisontal lines on the screen, with no display. There doesn't appear to be any sound either. Is it a lost cause or is there something I should look for? I've attempted some basic repairs on my home consoles before but I've never opened one of these :p Any comments would be appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Shambler

You will need to replace all electrolytic capacitors on the main board along with two on the power board. If after that fix it still be without sound (but then working with video and playing) you might also need to replace the capacitors on the sound amplifier board. Leaky capacitors are the bane of SEGA game systems.

My GameGear had the same fault, but it eventually died. When you power it on, it's doesn't do anything.

Any ideas on how much i can get for it, with some games. Or it's just garbage?

Can possibly revive it by replacing all the capacitors. Seen it happen with several Game Gears so far.

Excellent, thanks for the quick replies! I'll have a look at the caps on it later, is there a list of caps on board anywhere? Or should I just get to looking? :p

Johnny if you're willing to ship it to Brasilia I think I can fix it for you. Probably the capacitors leaked and it stopped working due to that.

You open it and look at the board. The solders will be oxidized if the capacitors leaked (the solders at the capacitor pins).

Open it up and look. I've seen quite a few different revisions but the values are written on the caps themselves.
