Replace broken transformer in Vectrex

Hi there! I appear to have a European Vectrex unit with a broken transformer.
I'm no electronics expert but by using my head and consulting with people more knowledgeable than me it's extremely likely that the primary coil is broken. There's simply no power coming out of it, but into it. And the resistance between the two input wires is infinite.

Anywho, finding a replacement transformer is another matter. There doesn't seem to be an obvious replacement since there aren't any numbers on the original one that can be traced to a stock part.

Seems to point to it being a 36VA 9-0-9 transformer. And even though the one I've got has 3 wires going in and 3 wires going out I should be able to simply replace it with a 5-wire one (I'm guessing the 3 input wires are for 110/220V, one of them is simply not connected)

But in the same link as above I've also read that the component is listed as critical and that any other transformer could possibly introduce issues and frankly I don't know enough to make a good judgement call.

The Vectrex might just be a moody beast and only work with very specific replacements, there's a huge difference between a Vectrex and replacing the transformer in a stereo after all (or maybe there isn't, that's why I'm asking)

Will it be fine if I put a 50VA or even 75VA transformer in there? As long as I don't mess up my voltage and coil configuration?

This guy seems to have replaced his transformer, I'll contact him as well to see what model he got and what experience he got out of it =)
