    Hi everyone,

So I did a dumb (dumb move number 435 trying to do this mod) and lost the 20-pin socket strips for the NESRGB board. I found this on digi-key ( http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/20-0600-21/A835AR-ND/4207162 ) but I'm not sure if it will fit.

Would anyone happen to know the part number? I could even pick it up from Jameco if I knew they had it. Just don't want to have to buy a whole new NESRGB board for parts :p

Thanks in advance for being awesome.

Unless Tim made changes to his kit, I don't recall him using square pins. They should be the round type (turned pins).

You are correct, they are round. It's just the closest one I could find for whatever reason. Wasn't sure if someone maybe had a part number off the top of their head, because this forum is a gold mine of obscure information.

I checked Tim's webpage again and it seems I remember incorrectly. He did supply both square and the round type. Not sure which type you are missing, but both types are 0.1 inch variety (2.54mm pitch). It really shouldn't matter which brands you buy, although some may be available in a taller or shorter form.

What's the difference between the 'square' and 'round' types in terms of application?
It seems like they should be interchangeable.

I don't think it does. I was more just curious if anyone knew of a part number of one that would fit through the holes on the board.

In NESRGB's application the square ones were meant to be soldered on both ends to combine/offset two separate PCBs. The round ones were meant to be used as removable connection. The square male header pins will not fit the round female header. So depending on which one @digitalia is missing, the type may matter.

Well, on mine, it was the round pin connector. It came with the 40 pin socket that you solder to the motherboard and two 20 round pin strips to solder to the NESRGB to connect it to the socket on the motherboard.

I think there are supposedly multiple revisions of it, though.

Yes, what he is referring to applies for installing the nesrgb on systems that require the adapter boards (e.g. AV Famicom).

Ahhh, right. Yeah, I have a front loader (which is apparently the hardest to find good tutorials on).

Am I just too old, or did more people grow up with the top loader? Trying to do the front loader with Helder's SNES A/V port. Proving... challenging for whatever reason, but failure helps with the learning process, right? :p

I think there's a valid question here. I spoke to Tim about this awhile back and he wasn't able to provide me with info on where I can find it.

The square headers are used between the NESRGB and adapter boards. They are soldered on both ends. They come with the adapter board.

The round ones either go into the NESRGB for adapter free install or into the adapter board. In either case, only 1 sided is soldered. The other inserts into socket into main NES board.

It is these round adapters that I can't find anywhere. I find them to be much better than the square ones. The square ones leave very little space in the holes so soldering as not as quick nor do they promote solder migration into the holes as easily.

So. Question remains. Where can one find these round pin headers?? I can see them to be very useful in many other projects.
