Right. I have a marty 1 and a marty 2 with non-working fdds. When you stick a disc it it just whirrs constantly so I'm assuming the belts have gone..

So my question is where could I find a replacement (or 10 for good measure)? Is it just a standard fdd size, or marty size specific? Any help appreciated, and sorry for the dumb topic.

I think he has good reason to be!

Matsushita = Panasonic, so if they do parts they may be the same, too. Hope you get it sorted! :)

The Marty arrived today; the floppy drive isn't working (whirrrrr -- as predicted) so it's a good thing you've got me in that deal, wheelaa. ;) I'm going to rip open a floppy drive tonight I have sitting around and see if that won't take care of it for now.

However, everything else is working great. Still, not bad for a speculation bid.

I should add... The "demo" CD that came with the Marty was some title called "Secre" and labelled "Demo Disk"; it seems to be a ton of skimpy pictures of Japanese women (par for the course) but I haven't taken time to go through it yet.

The Marty on the front has a sticker advertisement for the "Marty Channel". What this is, I have no goddamn clue. It's pretty interesting, though.

Just to update you all, as I know you have been having sleepless nights, tense mornings, depression, just worrying about Wheelaa's martys.

Well they are now all alive to the sounds of working fdds! The belts worked a treat.

Now all I need to worry about is the actual fdd dying (the loading mechanism apparently)..but I have enough consoles and spare belts so this will hopefully never be an issue.

Im sure evereyone knows ive always chickened out of FM Towns buying when its came to it, not to say i still wouldnt like one given expendable means, but ive heard recently that they (including Marty) play the games in a sad little window of gay?

    Is this fact?

No way of getting full screen?

Yep, tis true as far as I can tell. You can alter the display between Lo-Res, Hi 1 Hi2, and some games have other options too..sadly only in a window though. There's a soft or normal switch on the back too.

UNZ does full screen though I think;)

It could definitely be worse, but yeah, "Hi-Res" looks nice but doesn't take it full screen. I'm assuming this was to keep it within the aspect ratio of a monitor? That's the only thing that makes sense to me.

The frame rate suffers in Galaxy Force II as well, but really, I just like Galaxy Force II too much to give a damn. (I used to play it incessantly in the Sega-owned arcade back as a kid in Denver, Colorado.)

Of interest, how does FM Towns Galaxy Force II stand up to the Saturn version

    (Ive played neither)

Cause I love the game, and the Final Burn emulated version is excellent, tho id rather take a console version over emulated really, its a fave of mine in general.

It's quite clear that the Saturn version owns all others when you get to playing it. I used to have that version as well. I've still got the JPN MD version and the FBA emulated version to compare against, and they're all pretty decent in their own right.

    Very underrated game imho.

I've got the following on the way:

    Chase H.Q. (Classic Taito!)
    Image Fight (IREM shmup)
Mad Stalker (some mecha-based side-scrolling action)
New Zealand Story (More classic Taito!)
    Microcosm (Psygnosis)
    Afterburner III (CRI)

Should be a good time when they finally all get in. I'm kind of surprised by the arcade classics and I'm wondering how they'll stack up in comparison to their arcade counterparts.
