I managed to score myself an original ds, boxed for £5. I like to think I got a good deal. Only thing wrong is the shell is abit beaten up, so my question is does anyone know of a UK stockists of replacement shells? I've found them on ebay but there in the US and shipping is sky high.
Sorry to bump this one but im still in need of a replacement phat ds shell. If anyone has one or knows where I can get one please let me know. Thanks.
Probably around 2-3 weeks usually. AliExpress is like an ebay for Chinese sellers. Incidentally you can still find them easily enough in the UK. Installing them is a pain. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Replaceme...493914?hash=item3f250c2a5a:g:9o4AAOSwm8VUzmMY EDIT: Sorry I just realised that you meant for the NDS and not the NDSL. I actually forgot that system ever existed.
My shell arrived yesterday, so just over a week and a half, I think thats pretty good. Overall quality is also very good, should look like an original once installed. Ds lite shells are very easy to get, i think it was the most popular version of the system but im a sucker for first iterations of any system. Now just to find the time to install my new shell.
I replaced my girlfriend's DS Lite Shell a few years ago and in all honesty it was a PITA. Some of the ribbon cables are extremely short and I recall one was coiled up inside the hinge and had to be unravelled and then rolled up again inside the new case. Additionally, I'm not sure about the original model, but one word of caution would be that the WiFi adaptor is extremely difficult to break. It's not the end of the world if you do because replacements are cheap however as far as I could gather, the console used that for regional recognition because I installed a cheap replacement from eBay and suddenly the system menu switched itself to Japanese and couldn't be changed. That wasn't a huge problem as my girlfriend is a born and raised Tokyoite however it was definitely weird. My assumption is that the WiFi modules were tailored towards the different permitted frequency bands in various regions and the DS looked at that as a way to check which locality it should use. Replacing the module with an obvious cheap Asian import meant that the console subsequently assumed the Japanese locale.
