I just picked up a few (7) old PC's from a work place environment. Some of the screws have badly stripped and when ive taken them out won't go back in (no place to put the screwbit literally round) So I need a cheap bulk (maybe 1000? looking towards the future) pack of the screws. Its the type that mount hard drives/motherboards and keep cases closed. Where can I get these as £2/50 pack is not exactly feasible

They're just screws, it doesn't really matter about the head, more the thread.

Any decent computer shop should do them, as would an electronics wholesaler.

    You've tried eBay, of course?

There's no way you'll need 1000. I've worked in computer repair for 10 years and having 100 on hand at any given time would be more than sufficient. If you think about a really old PC with the all-in-one case cover, they took 5 screws usually, plus say 10 for the board and shall we say 5 PCI cards (not that you use that many normally). And it's very rare that they need replacing. We kept ours topped up with the surplus of those that come with new cases when we built PCs, but you could salvage from old PCs, too.

As for your current project, a 50 pack or two should do you and £2 or so is pretty reasonable to fix 7 PCs. I assume you mean the £2.99 packs in Maplin, which should already have told you what the thread is (6-32 and 4mm length), so get to your favourite hardware supplier or electronics wholesaler!

    *EDIT*

    2 second Google search:

Seriously, don't get 1000. Save your money!

You'll probably have more PC screws than you know what to do with before long, because inevitably computers die and then get raided for parts...

Precisely why I told him not to buy many!

You know those little storage bins that go on racks? Like a mini inbox thing. We had one of those full of CD-ROM screws, one full of case screws and one full of unsorted screws... just from repairing, trashing and building PCs.

Those kits you can get in a plastic holder with every type of screw should do anyone who is starting to get into PCs.
