    Barring differences unknown to me, I'd expect Japanese model 1 to draw marginally less power. No RF modulator.

    I used one of those unregulated PSUs on the Japanese Mega Drive I have... 13W on the base and it works well!
    I always double check with the sellers before buying to make sure there are plenty of Volts, Amps, etc.
    The ones I have are 9V 1110mA by PowerMaster, looks more like the second one on the eBay photos but doesn't have a right angle connector.
    They are awesome because they fit side by side so damn well.
