So I've got my PS2 TOOL all fixed up apart from one thing - the CD/DVD drive/laser seems to need replacing. It currently handles CD-based media much better than DVD, however it still tends to fail at some point which makes me believe it's the laser or a combination of both at fault here.

One pressed CD game I can get to boot to the main menu however once it gets to the main menu, it fails to read some files that I have verified do actually exist on the disc. Some games just boot to their splash screen where it hangs indefinitely.

Does anyone know of the specific model #'s to search for replacements? Is it even fixable? Any advice on this is much appreciated! :)

The drive is the same as a scph-10000 retail same logic board too. Just switch the tray and you are good. Just be careful not to damage the ribbon cable

I've heard this before and just wanted to confirm that it was accurate, I'll go ahead and order a replacement now then. :)
