I know that there are left-over files from the original N64 version of the game on the Japanese BH0 trial, but I haven't really seen much apart from later GC assets. Were there any inventory icons for items or backgrounds on there? I've attached the original character portraits I found a long time ago on the RE modding forums, but not exactly sure where they originate from. These are slightly different and possibly earlier than the Japanese beta screenshots.

Still holding out for a release of this proto someday..

I swear that there's a person in possession of that cart uploading footage. I know I've seen it before.

    What's the status on them?

There's new footage aside from the recent Capcom video? As far as I know, all the videos are either old stuff recorded by people who played it at E3 or promotional videos.

I'll have to look for it, but I absolutely remember someone claiming they're in possession of a cart of it and have put up footage already.

I truthfully don't know the legitimacy but I know this was somewhat controversial footage.

Interesting, I haven't come across anybody making such claims, but I don't get how people can straight up say that no-one has it or that it doesn't exist.

There were supposedly 8 consoles running the game at TGS 2000. No idea how many there were at the E3 event, but with more than one there's always the chance that a copy found it's way into someones hands.

I heard about some person keeping a proto cart of RE0 for years and, some years ago, that person tried to sell it on eBay. Result: auction cancelled and Capcom requesting back that cart from the "owner". That case was discussed in some RE forums (maybe THIA or Bioflames?). If there's any other person with another cart, is totally unknown for me.

Maybe they dumped a rom file before the cart was confiscated.

The money is there. Would a public thread with a bounty on the game help? It would be interesting to know how much people are willing to put down for something like this.

Probably not. You d need a quiet/reserved contact. First thing you want is to avoud Capcom getting wind of it.

Not sure if Capcom would care after all these years. As for a contact, most of those betas came to light because of people choosing to release them. Anyone who owns this would stay silent if they don't plan on releasing it, I'd wager.

These portraits are probably fake ones, the billy one have clear photoshop cuts on it.

I've heard that years ago someone said here that had it and would release it, but then Capcom discovered it and the dude disappeared, but i've never heard this ebay auction story now.

I did a search and you are right. Too bad. Just remakes based on the videos.

When the GBC protos were released, Capcom didn't do a thing even when someone told them. Kind of wierd that the N64 beta got treated differently. It must have been early days since the release of the retail game when it happened.

"NOTHING" is quite a stretch actually. Yeah it's slow on whats happening but things are in fact being done.

They probably didn't give a thing because it was made by a third party (HotGen), and also, things got pretty fast (in a month I think), and as far as I know, no one ever showed up or said that had a prototype years before the release.

I think there was some story that after the GoroMacida controversy Capcom went after him.

RE1 Builds were based from an already released game, so Capcom didn't care about these demos and a nearly finished build.

Also, I never found this story over the 64 version of Zero here, so it might be many years old and Capcom had changed their minds about that.

That's what I mean, when Capcom DID care about someone possibly releasing the prototype, It would either have to be before the release of the GC version or not long after it. I would like to know exactly what the deal was, though..
