So I'm working on an emulator (if you're a dev, help out!).

Now that the bios boots it's an issue that there's no publicly available untampered copy of the 3944 dashboard.

You really want to be able to have everything in the exact state a console shipped with, so a stock disk image or an image of the hardware refresh disc would be awesome.

    I imagine /someone/ here has a copy.

    Help?

EDIT (since posts are stuck on moderator approval o_O): So the "Hardware Refresh Disk" apparently doesn't write dashboard files o_O. Though at least one other factory disc does, so maybe there's a chance that somebody has something that obscure!

I was specifically looking for the 3944 dashboard since I've been emulating a v1.0 xbox with the 3944 bios, and getting together everything the console shipped with is the least likely to do tricky things (and nice from a emulation purist point of view)

Otherwise, it'd actually be great to have a collection of all the published dashboard versions, particularly ones built close to available xdks. Currently I've only been able to locate 4920 and 5960 :/ (Dashboards are convenient to look at emulating since you can piece together the app symbols from somewhere)

The hardware refresh disc doesn't have the dashboard files, it just wipes the save partition.

Why use the 3944 dash? The 5590 is uploaded every where? Is there a reason you need 3944?

I'll have to look for the backups from my old (1.1, I think) XBOX and see what dash was on there. I'm pretty sure I made a backup right after installing my chip, I "just" have to find it...

There's quite a few "installer", "softmod", "engineering", ... discs around, maybe one of those also includes the older dashes. Can't remember actually seeing that option anywhere tbh, but might be worth a shot if nothing interesting turns up here.

Compatibility? With more binaries to examine, you get better accuracy (in theory), meaning the emulator is going to be better. That, and I guess "official Microsoft binaries" are the most interesting since they're more likely to be coded "the right way", which is something you want to get working before getting into 3rd-party-game-specific quirks.

Ah ok. I'll take a look at each Xbox I own and see if I can find the dash :)

And to know I had about 9 different dash versions, + every version modded by myself for regionfree DVD playback via Dongle (pre XBMC era).
I doubt if I still have these, but will dig into my install discs for a look and see if they still work.

Just finished going though my backups, and the earliest dashboard I could find is 4034. I'm going to upload that some time tomorrow. I don't recall patching anything, but there's some evox files in there, and the xbe has been renamed, so I can't guarantee all of the dashboard files are pristine.

    edit: Here you go.

About later versions: Some (maybe all?) are available as on-disc updates, so we can reconstruct them by updating from an older dash. There's no list of which game has which updater (if any) though. This is where everyone can help: Go through your XBOX library and see if there's an updater.xbe or dashupdate.xbe on any of your discs. Take note of its size (in bytes), or even better, its MD5 hash. Post game title and updater info here.

I also want this 3944. Sadly the Refresh or whatever other disks i have dont update or downgrade(not posible) to 3944. Shogun is emulating a specific dash because he has the matching debug symbols.
Ive yet to get the right pc to set my emu kit in work again. Its more usefull to emulate the game more presice than to run a dash. but for IO research it may be intresting (MCPX or GPU special codes?)
