Hey Everyone, You know how Japan, and Asia in general like to package games, cds, etc in those resealable bags? Sealking brand, for instance? Are they safe for archiving generally? Or will they eat away at signatures, cartrige labels, or anything like that?
It's not a great idea to store them in them if they give off volatile chemicals that will yellow. You can't beat plain old parchment paper for important things.
I don't think they are harming the games or support yellowing. Some vinyl collectors have their discs stored away in the same baggie for 30 years and they still look as fresh as on day 1. If there are differences regarding the quality of the plastic, that I don't know though.
Well, I have no idea these kinds of bags give off anything usually. I wouldn't want some acid eating away at a signature signed on a CD box, book, or something. I guess it would be better to remove them and put them in something else.
Generally, you need to use acid free PPE or PET plastics for archival. Do not use PVC products. Assume it's PVC unless you can confirm a bag is the proper chemical make-up. When you buy PPE or PET bags, they are nearly always advertised as such because they are slightly more expensive to produce or buy.
