Okay, I've completely lost, cannot find the details on how to reset or find the Login / Password information for the PS2 Tool. Anyone got a link / the actual information as it might prove handy to have in a specific thread for future reference anyway - thanks!

Is this the linux login, or the web-based admin login?

The procedure for the former is as port187 notes.

The latter password is normally set thus -> http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=102154&postcount=2
(Though I was wondering how to change that one, if you'd changed it & then forgotten it.)

to reboot, UJ did mention typing at bash prompt ''init 6'' without quotation marks and that seemed to be the only difference. Anyhow, it appears to have worked so all's good

cheers mate. Not sure I can do much with it though. I have only got this far by finding this forum and the excellent info contained within. When i bought the thing i thought i'd be able to hook it up and play multi region. I already cringe at my naivety.

Hi, and of course you can play multi region with it, the hardest part will be to find the correct post in the Sony thread ;)

As UJ states, you can play NTSC U/C/J and PAL titles of any region. Finding where we have posted all this information is a task in itself.

Firstly, which version of Tool is it you have bought? Is it the T10k, T14k or elusive T15k? How have you got it all set up at present? What settings for the dipswitches etc?

More precisely what model H, H A?
Easiest way to play from the linux side of the Tool:
or
to play
or a push on the blue button to stop

If it fails and comes up with a read error then you may need to either clean or replace he laser. However they are not retail units and as such not specifically designed to play retail games titles. You may find only a small number of your whole collection will play until you burn off a copy. Luckily if it is a laser issue then it's exactly the same as the early retail PS2 units. K400 laser. Some third party lasers also work. Regrettably it does mean taking the thing apart.

It has now just booted up a U.K pal retail copy of Fifa 08- wow thanks guys.

I have a keyboard and monitor pluged into the ports hidden behind the metal plate. The dipswitch setting i am using is the standard one qouted on this forum: 1. Off (downwards)2. On (upwards)3. Off4. Off5. On (for NTSC) and Off (for PAL) (i'm in u.k so I've got it set to pal)6. Off 7. On 8. On.

As for the specs this is as far as i've got:

The Tool is running "Red hat Linux release 6.2 (Zoot)' and it states Kernel 2.2.14-5.0 on a i686.
The model number is DTL-T10000H- i'm not sure how to tell if it is a T10 T14 or T15- how does one tell?

Many thanks for all your help- I'm now curious as to what sort of tool i've got. how do i find out about this T10- T14 thing.

I don't know much about it's origins other than it came with no manuals but had a burnt CD inside marked Winatmon 280 USB

DTL-T10000H gets shortened to T10kH

Never heard of the Winatmon 280 USB. You might want to stick that into a PC and examine it a bit, perhaps give some indication of the files you find on it. I can't find anything (in a quick search) about Winatmon relating to the PS. There was some PC software called that a long time back. I am curious though. Anything relating to the PS2 Tool is worth investigating.

Glad to hear you have it all up and running!
