Hello, I found this old CD with RE1 on it. It looks pretty much retail, but is there a quick way to check the EXE file (or another file) for the verison number of it ?
Right click on the exe, properties, and then the details tab should give you the version information.
oh my, the oldest "trick" in history and I totally forgot aobut it. @_@ Thanks it does not enlist any version though, but only the file dates : Checker.exe 15.08.1997 ResidentEvil.exe 09.09.1997 Setup.exe 09.09.1997 unintall.exe 28.08.1997 And inside of the "ResidentEvil.exe" I find a date like : RESIDENT EVIL for DIRECT X..1997/3/21
Holy sh!t...just googled this...how can one NOT credit Westwood Studios :OOOO https://acantophis3rd.wordpress.com/2011/01/14/review-residentevil-pc/
Weird thing is that Virgin was the one who published even for USA, not Capcom. Likely that Capcom hadn't any plans and Virgin came up with the idea and gave the project to Westwood.
I have a really tough time taking a Let's Play-er's blog as a legitimate source. I did a little more research and it seems it's true though. Not that they did an amazing job. They still used the hacky PS1 method of looping a silent audio stream to keep the frame rate steady, which is why it's f*cked on newer OSes.
