Hello all, I was looking through my old computer the other day and stumbled across the following screen grab I made way back in 2004, it was taken in the directors cut of the original Resi game. I'd intended to post it on one of the Resi forums I used to frequent but never got round to it. Thought you guys here might find it of interest and wondered if anyone had any idea of any significance to it? What makes it interesting to me is that I took it via an emulator on PC, if you played it on PS1 I doubt the resolution would let you see it. "Full Metal Prison - 1993-1994"
This reminds me of the disaster that was the RE 1 directors cut. Here in the states this was released without the gore which all the magazines had hyped was being reinstated in the game. All it had were new difficulty modes. I remember calling Capcom customer service about it and the 12 year old rep who answered the phone said "Well don't believe the magazines next time" In fact, the error was on Capcom Japan's end for forgetting to add the more violent version, and never corrected it. Doubt they could get away with that today.
' Capcom's US website back when the director's cut was released had an apology stating that due to some last minute fine text they were not able add the unedited scenes, and then posted the scenes in a thumbnail video on their website.
Maybe its a joke from capom.Normally on this stone must be the name and death date of george trevor..I must check the UK version, but on the Biohazard 1 games there is written :George Trevor..
Some European releases (German, iirc) have a non-black&white filtered version of the uncensored opening (though, it really does look like it's a recolor post-black&white filtering, 'cause of the sharp contrasts and stuff. Hard to tell for sure without some insight on the localization process or a non-PS1 quality version of it). This also has Chris smoking in the "cast" section. Apparantly, some PC versions releases has the colorized version of the intro too. But I'm not too familiar with the various PC releases/re-releases (so it could just be a fan modification for all I know) If my head's screwed on right, there should be a total of 3 different releases of the RE1 (not counting box variations) for the PlayStation in the US and JP. Biohazard - Released in the US as Resident Evil Biohazard - Director's Cut - Released in the US as Resident Evil: Director's Cut Biohazard - Director's Cut - Dual Shock ver. - Released in the US as Resident Evil: Director's Cut - Greatest Hits Not entirely sure what the general deal was with the "censored" vs "uncensored" version of the opening and the US version and don't remember whether or not the European release was affected by any potential incorrect files (though, the regular release has a different scene for Chris in the cast sequence, without him lighting up a cigar.)
I remember downloading this video on my on Rockwell modem Sad thing is they could have gotten the right videos in there with the Greatest Hits version but they didn't add the videos in on this version as well. The US version is in black in white as well unfortunatley. I remember reading of an RE pressed disc that had the original uncut movies but that only turned out to be a false rumor.
i have the EU (non german) version of REC right in front of me, if its an easy check i can fire it up and see if its censored or not, just tell me what too look for. not sure i have the energy to play thru the whole thing tho but you never know.. it IS a great game after all
The uncut videos are the opening video in color, when Jospeh picks up the gun with the hand attached you can see where it was severed. Jospeh also get mauled by the dog for a longer time, during the character introduction Chris is smoking a cigarette. The other video is when you see kenneth the first time and his neck is eaten by the Zombie, his head should fall to the ground in this video. They should be up on Youtube, I'll edit this post when I locate them. Edit: Here we go Opening vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCZP-SxSmD8&feature=PlayList&p=C392AF6F2E120EC4&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=3 Kenneth vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8FWQFx1zpk As for the tomb stone, I'm curious if the inscription is the same in the GameCube version. Then again it could just be about George Trevor now that I think about it.
Ok, EU version is also censored to hell and back, black & white intro with tons of pixelated filters and just about everything cut out, chris doesnt smoke in the intro either, he just stands there..
