D-terminal doesn't convert to VGA. It's just a Japanese answer to component.

Anyone know how it looks? I assume no better than progressive scan, which doesn't look as good as VGA unfortunately.

    You need this cable.

    But with the vga connector.

With this cable you will get the best quality image in a Game Cube. The VGA signal is a pure RGB signal.

This is the quality cronology: RF/RCA/S-VIDEO/RGB/VGA OR VIDEO COMPONENT

Remember that you need ntsc games for enable the progressive scan, PAL games do not support it. If you have a PAL GC, you can buy Free Loader to load ntsc games.

Query - How come the Gamecube component cable is so expensive?

I bought the vga cable in Game Choice Club, and was very expensive for shpping+taxes... 80€!! The price of component cable is $39.99, but I advice you that buy in another shop with non expensive taxes like Lik-Sang or Play Asia.

Thanks, but I couldnt use the VGA cable anyway. PAL gamecube games dont have progressive scan >_< I could play my imports with progressive scan thanks to the Freeloader though....but I only have one import game.

I too am curious if there is any notable quality increase using this method - not that Resident Evil 4 is exactly lacking in the visuals department...

How come the Gamecube is not running through the hot Studio Display there? ;)

Response: Because they hate gamers. Seriously, I have no clue, and it doesn't make sense. One could go even further and ask why they only sold the cable on their website, instead of releasing it to retail outlets. Speculation could even be had on a possible connection between the component cable being expensive + attainable online-only and Nintendo's decision to remove the digital out port on newer (mine :( ) Gamecubes because they thought that there wasn't much demand for it.

Sometimes it seems like Nintendo takes pages straight from the Sega Book Of How To Totally Fuck Up Marketing.

    And then some...

Can't PAL GC use this? I'd love to play Mario on my new monitor. My PAL GC has the two video outs on it (ie old model)

Yeah, surely some PAL games or something would give progressive outputs. Otherwise why the hell did they put a digital AV out on the PAL Gamecube?!

According to what I've read on the Internet they removed progressive scan support from PAL games....however usign a FReeloader you can boot an import game in progressive scan mode.

I dont know if this effects the component cable too...but I read that a D-terminal cable is pretty useless on a PAL gamecube.

  17. The reason the gamecube component cable is so expensive is because it has a chip in it. It takes the signals from the "Digital Out" port (in whatever the hell format they're in; this is why no third party has made one yet) and converts that to component. My google fu is weak this morning and I can't find the instructions on how to do it, but IIRC you're basically changing the value on the input pin of the chip, telling it to output RGB signals instead of component. Then obviously you boot with progressive scan.

Hehehe, I want do it, but Studio Display is an ADC monitor (power and video along one cable), and can't be connected to a vga :( Only with a ADC-VGA conversion box that costs $350, and I'm not sure if with that will works...

Are u sure that with this will works fine? I'm not sure. If works, the screen resizes to 640x480 at full screen, or 640x480 in real size screen? My Cinema HD supports 1920x1200 as u know.
