Had a bizarre occurrence the other day. Not sure if there are many Gamecube experts here, but I'm at a complete loss and have no idea where else to seek help.

Went to play Wrestlemania XIX the other day. Everything in the game was gone. All the unlockables, create-a-superstar characters, gone. I tried to load the memory card from the "options" menu of the game, but no dice. The save data was still showing up as empty. I then checked the actual memory card from the Gamecube menu screen, but the saved game data is still there. I checked some of my other games from that memory card and found that Day of Reckoning's data (another wrestling game) is also not working, even though the save file still shows up on the memory card. I also have Day of Reckoning 2, but that file is working, as well as all the other games I checked. The bizarre thing is I also have Wrestlemania XIX backed up to another memory card, and even THAT file won't work. I don't get a corrupt notice or anything, everything is just gone all of a sudden. It's the weirdest thing.

It wouldn't be anything more than a pain in the butt having to recreate characters and buy all the unlockables again. But my best friend died in 2009 and he had a create-a-superstar on here, and it would be an even bigger bummer to lose that sentiment. Can the files be recovered? I've heard that you can save files, but only from the Wii. Would this work in my scenario? And if so, how would I go about getting that program on the Wii to save the files? I am below rookie status when it comes to downloading programs onto computers and restoring things like this. It would have to be explained to me like I'm a five-year-old.

    I appreciate the time, folks.

Have you been trying to use 1019 block memory cards on a Wii?
Though the cause remains inconclusive, it's believed that Wii can increase the risk of corruption.

Homebrew programs are worth a try. I don't know if they care whether the system is a Gamecube or Wii.

Depending on your console version/region, there's many ways to load programs. Including Action Replay, SD Media Launcher, exploit save files, modchips... Trying to describe each of them would over-complicate matters. But a 4.3 updated Wii is fairly easy to open up for hacking, as "LetterBomb" requires no games at all.

I actually just use a Gamecube to play Gamecube games. I play mostly older games and it's mostly nostalgia based. Also, I use a 64mb madcatz memory card and a basic black Gamecube memory card.

    So I need "LetterBomb"?

    Yes. http://wiisixtyfour.webs.com/whg/letterbomb.htm

Lacking native SD support, anything similar is less convenient on a Gamecube. (SD cards in an adapter aren't Gamecube memory cards so Nintendo's file manager doesn't recognize them)

Okay. I will fiddle around with the links you two posted and see what I can come up with. Hopefully I can get it going.

I can confirm that even official 1019 memory cards are prone to corruption even on a gamecube. I would just stick to official 256 as I never had problems with them.
These days I actually use nintendont and virtual 256 block memory cards per game.
It took a while to dump and sort the saves, then to re-import them to individual memory cards- I used Dolphin to manage the saves. Now I can backup all my GC saves with a simple copy and paste whenever I plug the hdd in my computer
