Considering that retro gaming setups don't work well with modern furniture and setups. I'm wanting to go wireless with the N64, however aftermarket N64 controllers are most commonly garbage, I'm worried that these controllers by retro-bit are the $11 controllers floating around eBay just with a 2.4GHz board inside them.

Example of the wireless controller here.

Has anyone had any experience with these?

I also did a bit more research and wouldn't mind going down the route of making an official wireless controller with the guide floating on the net. However it does involve some pretty indepth electronic stuff, which is above just soldering wires, therefore above my skill level.

my gaming room because of the set up the controllers don't reach, I just ended up buying 2m extension cables for all the controllers, which worked well :)

You are probably going to run into some issues with a 2.4Ghz RF signal (especially if you live in a metro area, or the burbs')

That kinda crossed my mind, but in a way I like the neatness of no cables. I guess there would be no need for batteries though hah

I own one of these controllers. The built isn't exactly terrible. But I got two main issues with it. One is the analog stick is way too sensitive and really difficult to play FPS games. The other problem is the center handle where the Z trigger is. Its like cut the handle in half and make it flat, making it really uncomfortable holding it on the left hand versus the original controller.

Seems to me like the screws next to the memory card slot are closer together than on the Nintendo one...? Well, maybe it's just the perspective. Otherwise it might still be doable but maybe a bit hackish (pcb not screwed down, maybe hotglued instead or whatever).

Also, how about trying to replace the (what I assume is a GC style) joystick with an "old-style" one? The GC ones being overly sensitive is a well-known problem after all.

Or better yet, maybe an official joystick could be used in the wireless one? Not sure what the insides look like.

We had one at work at one point. Honestly, It's not as bad as other 3rd party N64 controllers, but that's not to say its not bad. The joystick is pretty sub-par and not precise with games that need precision.

I can't quite remember, but I *think* that the joystick is setup like all other 3rd party controllers. Ya know, the 4 wire setup.

Looks like they copied the mold from another controller that copied the mold...from another controller that modified the mold enough to not scream "copyright infringement"

I think the design is old enough that they can use the same molds (these guys make SNES, NES, and Genesis controllers that are close looking to the originals). It's probably flat on the middle handle because it makes it smaller to ship.

It's just those cheap $8 controllers since the buttons are raised the same etc.

There was someone on here who made retro fit wireless adaptors for different consoles..

the cheap n64 controllers use two potentiometers for X and Y axis..
The original n64 controllers used an it beam and encoder wheels, basically the same used in ball mice, signals can be converted but it's a waste of time.. In theory however you could mod a ball mouse into a n64 controller and use a mouse to controll the stick.. :D break out the buttons to a keyboard and... Looks like a mod I might do heheheheh
