Heading to Singapore in around a week and was wondering if anyone has had any luck doing any game shopping (preferably retro) over there? The place mentioned in an earlier thread, Seow Choon, has apparently closed up. On the upside it looks like there are some good arcades over there (mind, I live in Australia so it doesn't take much to make an impression!), the markets might be fun, and at a guess I daresay there might be some opportunities to grab some PS2, PSP and DS titles since they're not so old :p

    Any thoughts?

Try sim Lim square, basement 1, there one game store hard to miss. Then head to the level 4,5,6 for shopping of PC parts which is cheap. Its my fav place a year round.

U can also try north point shopping centre (yishun) level 3 game store name is zapy games. The selection of games is also quite wide.

or let me know should U wanna purchase any other items U have in mind from me =P
    I have a psx 160gb, Panasonic Q, ps2 15000 series, Xbox and ps2 arcade sticks.

Awesome, thanks for those suggestions kyo86sg! I'm going to add Sim Lim Square back onto the list, and will also look into North Point Shopping Centre to see whereabouts it is!

Thanks for the offer for grabbing some goodies locally while we're there, but not after more hardware at this stage :) Since posting the above and doing some more reading it also looks like Qisahn, Funzsquare and Gamescore might also be worthwhile taking a look for modern games too.

Not that I'll be able to go too crazy with gaming stuff while over there, but I figured having a few places up my sleeve means I'd be able to squeeze a little bit in :)

I was pretty disappointed with Sim Lim Square when I went earlier this year, it's all new stuff.

Sim Lim Tower was more interesting, I thought.[SUB] Not for games, mind you, but definitely for electronics hacking supplies! [/SUB]

Thanks RetroSwim - I think it'll probably all come down to time I reckon, but we'll see how we go!

Out of interest, what region PS3 games are there in Singapore? If I see something for a good price I might snap something up while there for a current gen system!

Thought I'd fire off a quick update - came back from a week's stint in Singapore, here are some thoughts if others are curious:

    - Visited Sim Lim, but didn't stick around long. Plenty of consumer electronics, but not huge amounts of gaming from my quick breeze through (though we neglected to visit B1 - was pressed for time and didn't want to push my luck with my wife and drag her around too much that morning). Wandered past the old location for Seow Choon while walking over to Arab Street incidentally, shame they have closed up.

    - Funan Digitalife Mall has a handful of gaming shops on the top floor. Pricing is about the same as Zavvi or OGS/365 Games, maybe a touch more expensive. Picked up VF Anniversary for the PS2 in the small pile of PS2 clearance titles. There are also some interesting toy/model shops if you like collectable figures and stuff (I don't know much about the scene, but there were some cool looking Transformers there!).

    - In Orchard we checked out Qisahn at the Far East Shopping Centre and grabbed a couple of games (a few PSP and DS games second-hand for cheap), and also visited Funzsquare at the Far East Plaza but nothing tickled my fancy there.

If we find ourselves killing time in Singapore again, I'll follow kyo86sg's suggestion and head out to Zapy Games and look for the game store at Sim Lim Square on B1 too. The big theme is that everything's current gen in the stores, aside from a handful of PS2 titles getting cleared out and some second hand DS and PSP gear too.

    Sounds exactly like my experience...

It doesn't matter though, Singapore is cool in other ways, there's heaps to do to stay entertained.
