Hello fellas, long time no see...:033: I'm looking forward to visit Camden and I would like to know about any good shops with used/vintage gaming hardware. Actually I'm going there with my girlfriend and I would like to buy her a boxed NES/SNES because it would be really cool to get it from there during our trip, instead of eBay. All suggestions are welcome.
The Video Game Exchange on Notting Hill Gate Road is one I recommend. As for Camden - it's kinda burnt (unless you don't watch the news)... and in any case, it's mostly 'alternative' culture shops and not much retro gaming. I too would be interested in knowing of other shops, as I'm intending to come to Ldn this weekend (if the Arcadia tickets come through).
I'll look forward to visit this, thank you. I do know about the fires but the stable market and the hotel we'll be staying were not affected... but anyway ignore Camden, because indeed, it's just a marketplace to buy clothes and accessories.
If you're willing to travel to Essex, I remember going to Thatz Entertainment in Lakeside Shopping Center. It's been a good few years (and a good few KMs) since I've there though.
Its depend where you will be in London. For example in Bromley on the main street there are 3 or 4 shops. 2 at and near Tottenham street a few at Oxford (new) street. Another 2 shops when you walk from Euston station in direction from center. I would recomended to check Gamestation and Cex pages for exact locations of their shops.
CEX is a shit shop with rip off prices. Dont even bother. There arent many retro game shops in london. The ones that have retro stuff only rarely arent well over priced. Theres a couple of shops to go to but really your not gonna find anything that great specialy at a cheap price.
It depends I bought a few nice things in CEX for price like 1 GBP for a cart when they want to get rid off the items.
I have had mixed results with CEX too. Saw a Final Fantasy Wonderswan in the window so went it to enquire - £150.00 Had a look around out of interest and found 4 gamecube games (albeit crappy wrestling and sports games) complete for 50p each. Had a few neo geo pocket games out of there too for £1. Worth a flying visit just in case me thinks!
I remember the good old days. Shekana and CEX (when it was good), a couple of places near me (when I was growing up there), in Clapham, and tons of awesome places outside London. back then it was 'current' gaming though. lol. but I used to love it.and the magazines (both US and UK). oh I badly miss those days...
Give me a shout when you are coming over and perhaps we can meet up and take you to the few that are around London CEX are not bad but over-priced Didn`t think the one in Notting Hill was still there Gamestation are good, but none in Central London all outside, but some good deals......even worse is that my mate used to be a manager and could have worked a discount If you let me know how much you are willing to spend on a NES/SNES perhaps I can pick one of for you in advance of your trip
Yeah, the market isn't what it used to be. RetroX was a cool shop, but long gone. I thought the Notting Hill Exchanges had all gone, too. And CeX has been dead for years - yeah it's still there, but there's nothing interesting. To be honest, even GameStation have told a lot of stores to clear out their retro stuff. You're best off finding an indie (like us - although we're 70 miles from London... if you fancy the costly train ride, not too bad, I guess), but even they are few and far between now.
CeX im birmingham used to be pretty good, i remember going int here a few years ago and they were selling off loads of dreamcast imports for 50p and £1 each, ended up spending about 50quid in there, these days they are overpriced, only time i use CeX these days is when i buy bulk lots of xbox's from the warehouse in london Also went into my local town today and to my dismay the only retro gaming shop has now closed down, it was mostly overpriced tat in there, but at least they gave a good trade in price
I think the shop was doomed to begin with really, it was in a badly placed area in the town, plus they pretty much exclusively delt with retro items, no next gen stuff at all really, and the fact that the one guy who worked in there had no idea about retrogaming at all didnt help!
Pretty sure theres still the ...Exchanges in Notting hill, I go through every day. I'll check the games one is still there on monday when I next go to college! If not theres at least a few record shops owned by the same company
Yep, the VG Exchange is still there - although apparently now only open on Saturdays. Also, I came out of it empty handed
I haven`t been for ages, but I am sure the last time I went they had something about not being able to accept electrical items, which knocked most consoles on the head
If i remember I'll have a look tomorrow - I go from notting hill station to a bus stop in notting hill, walking past it most days...
